View Full Version : Could i run VW Teardrops on my e30?

Regardless of whether or not its a good idea (race blending  ), i was just curious if i could do it (as in just pop em on and be done with it)

I'm somewhat desperate to get rid of my bottlecaps, so i thought it might be fun to see how these look on my e30, and then buy some cheap steelies for my mom to run on the jetta (which used to be mine)

they are supposedly 14x6

some pics of the rims on my old car:

i would of course run them without the centercaps... if i did decide to use them.

right now i run 195/65-R14 on my stock bottlecaps, and i'm fairly happy with the tires. Would i be able to run the same size tire on these rims and be alright? it wouldn't mess with my speedo or anything right?

thanks.

whats the offset of the rim, if its within reason you will be able to run them, but u'lll possbily need spacers.

Both are 4x100 and have a 57.1 centerbore so like Spaz said it really comes down to what offest they have.

i'm not sure, how do i measure offset?

A few posts over @ vwvortex seem to imply that the teardrops are 6Jx14ET38

so.. an offset of 38.

Eh...I don't think they look any better than bottlecaps.

They will just look like VW rims on a BMW. I think it would look really bad.

no et38 will rub on the struts.

i tried running VW steel wheels for winter wheels, they dont clear.

dude, if you want to do it.... do it, why are you going to not becuase everyone else wont like it, you'd have to run about 15mm spacers if you want to try, dont let other people make discisions for you...

this is true.. i guess i could toss em on and see how they'd look.. where can i get 15mm spacers?

and why must they be 15mm spacers, if bottelcap offeset is 35mm and these are 38mm?

it's going to look worse anyway, you're going to be even further inside the fenders than you are with the bottlecaps. just take off the centers (they look stupid anyway) and rock them without roundels :)

is there anyway to get them to sit as far out as my bottelcaps?

i'd say 15mm, and make sure you get longer lug bolts, there is a set of 15mm spacers and bolts for sale on the DTM for sale board, go check it out

too bad proper spacers are going to cost you more than the value of the wheels.

if its any consolation, I saw a passat with a set of bottlecaps on it. I was going to take a picture of it but it was at a gas station and i didnt have my camera

a good pair of 15mm spacers will cost you a good $100 (15mm H&R Trak+ spacers) and in addition to that, you have to spend who knows how much on extended wheel bolts (in this case, 45mm.)

so you're lookin to spend a good $300 just to space the wheels out right.

this enough should discourage you to not put on the teardrops, although I have nothing against you doing so.

erm.. yeah. i like their look, but not enough to spend as much as another set of tires, just to get them on.

MB, BMW, and VW all have versions of the bottle caps. My friend's Golf has the VW caps, but seriously, they look like the BMW caps.

I still think ET38 6" wide wheels with 195's will fit without spacers. They would be way inside the fenders, but I'd do it if I hated bottlecaps enough.
