Alright folks, here is the group buy for the Treehouse Racing (http://www.treehouseracing.com) CAB's (Eyeball Arms).
http://www.treehouseracing.com/images/EyeballArmsSM.jpg
These Control Arm Bushings (CAB's) are made for e30's, e36's, and Z3's.
They are CNC Machined Steel with a Nylon-Moly inner bushing which has a limited lifetime warranty.
The eyeball arms will give you tons of exhaust clearance for m50 swaps and improve "crispness" in steering and suspension.
Standard e30 m3 offset, yet are very easy to install. These bushings will slide on the control arm with one finger.
On a personal note: I installed these bushings in the front of my car about 8 months ago, and the car was transformed. On the interstate, the car felt alive in my hands. When the car used to waver over bumps, the car was not fazed at all after installing the eyeball arms. Easily one of the best suspension mods I have done to my car.
Jordan reviewed the bushings here. (http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13237)
For all you m50 guys, here is a shot of the exhaust clearance on a stock m20 header.
http://home.comcast.net/~rc10t3/CAB_Rear.JPG
The stock lollipop butts against that metal plate to the left of the eyeball arm.
These CAB's have been tested for 3 years both on the track and street successfully.
Now on to the good stuff:
If you want a set of Treehouse Racing eyeball arms, put your name down here, along with where you live. All eyeball arms sold in the Group Buy will be sold unpainted. You will be able to paint them whatever color you like, but we strongly suggest that you paint them.
These bushings have misengraving on them. On one side, the Treehouse Racing engraving is either very faint, or non existant. Does not affect performance or function in any way. Purely cosmetic, but you get a great deal.
Pricing: $134 plus $9 S/H in continental US (143 total, shipped UPS ground).
We also ship to Canda for a different shipping fee, e-mail for details.
This Group Buy accepts Credit Card, Paypal, or Money Order/Cashiers Check.
Payment must be received no later than Friday, November 5th 2004.
The bushings will be shipped out by Friday November 19th 2004.
All communications for this Group Buy including questions and/or payments MUST go through Rob Case at rccase@comcast.net, AIM name tuxkilla, or call 615-522-1200 (9AM-9PM CST)
When you order the bushings, make sure you include the Group Buy Code: “r3vlimited”.
*Pay Pal payments are to be made to jon@treehouseracing.com with Group Buy Code: “r3vlimited" in the comment section
*Credit Card payments are to be made over the phone by contacting Rob Case at 615-522-1200

Dibs. I want them ASAP. And I want them black. If you can get them out to me by the 29th, that would be awesome. Hopefully people will jump onboard fast enough for that.
I'm in Indianapolis, so pretty close I'd say.
I'm in, I'm down, whenever you say I can pay for them. So let's get people on it with $ ready and so I can have them in the next two weeks.

Tonight I will have finalized prices, availability, and all the good stuff. However, I gotta let you guys know that the eyeball arms will come unpainted, leaving you guys to paint them black or whatever color you want. Sorry for the confusion on the colors, all the sets going for the GB are unpainted.

So if I need to replace my front control arms I should just buys these and do them at the same time, right? Because I'm gonna need to by the bushings, so why not go all the way with the upgrade? I may be in depending upon price.

I'm interested, mostly because installing the rubber M3 bushings is such a PITA.
one question, can these be reused later if I have to change my control arms? although that's not likely, mine have 160k on them so far and aren't showing any signs of wear yet (still replacing them this spring, however).
Skafrog
10-20-2004, 09:14 AM
they sure can. One of the best aspects of the design is how easy they are to install/uninstall. If your bushing ever wears out, it has a lifetiem warranty on it as well. These CAB's will be the last ones you will ever buy.

the ride is a little stiffer, but its not too bad. Read Jordan's review here:
http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13237
The ride is no stiffer on normal pavement, but you do feel the blue reflectors in the road a little more, but nothing too serious.

yes, the 19th has passed, but I cannot see Treehouse to blame, and I mean $30 off is a nice bargain. And considering how some group buys operate, this one is still a good one overall, and think Rob's done a good job running it.

Alright, here is what is going on with the group buy;
Originally, Treehouse had a small number of misengraves. The GB generated more orders than there were misengraves. Treehouse did not want to turn anyone away and let the GB continue to grow until the cutoff date. The good news is Jon is offering to give everyone a brand new set of eyeball arms for the same price. They will not be misengraves, they will be full production parts. Jon from Treehouse will keep the misengrave price for our trouble (waiting). Brand new parts are in production as we speak, I should have an update for you guys by tonight or tomorrow.
The bushings will still be left unpainted, but will be identical to the ones sold at Bimmerworld and on the Treehouse site.
Jon says he's sorry for the delay and hopes the new parts will make up for it.

What did we all decide was the best way to paint these? (materials and procedure)
Skafrog
12-02-2004, 09:15 PM
You will have to clean them before you paint them with something like 409, then you can paint them without primer if you want, thats how mine are, and they are fine after a year. They dont have to be perfect if they are going on your own car. Engine enamel (the high heat paint) works great, thats what I use.

You will have to clean them before you paint them with something like 409, then you can paint them without primer if you want, thats how mine are, and they are fine after a year. They dont have to be perfect if they are going on your own car. Engine enamel (the high heat paint) works great, thats what I use.

I think putting them on right now may cause some premature wear on the already old parts in the suspension.
I'm holding out till i can afford to rebuild the whole suspension (tie rods, control arms, shocks, springs, etc) to put everything on.

That is my plan as well. Switching to aluminum CAs, new tie rods, custom endlinks, and either switching to Koni shocks or just going with Leda coilovers.

I found a nice barely used set that I'm saving about $150 on.
BTW, those bushings are sexy, are they aluminum or steel? I wonder if they need to be painted at all...?

yea, it was a pain. Yours are a gift, and are worth 42 dollars so you wont have to pay any taxes or anything when you recieve them. I spent 20 minutes in UPS with the guy scheming on how to get them to you with minimal cost.

oh wow thanks. Sorry for the trouble.
The border sucks. I normally get charged $30+ for like a 80-120 dollar item. I see no fairness in that

yea, I was pretty taken back when they said you would have to pay taxes. Thats bullshit. You should not have to pay any more than US citizens for the bushings.
I used to go to canada for the summers, dock in Chatham, and the customs guys would come on board and drink beer with my dad. Now, its a real pain to get into Canada.

Ain't "free trade" great!
A buddy of mine in Edmunton looked into gettting E30 parts from US and was told that NAFTA applies only to stuff made in North America, even used car parts. I think that's cr0ck if the stuff has already been imported into North America. The Treehouse bushings are made in North America though(No?); so shouldn't they be exempt under NAFTA?

and they just said no?........why couldn't they offer a price when and ONLY when X number of people get on board......, if that x number is not met then no deal.......they would have nothing to lose.....group buys can be a bitch for all involved but if they work they rock.

I'll be in, but what is the difference between these and the regular m3 bushings? Just easier to work with. Are these bushings just for the front and arnt there more than one bushing on each of the control arms? Sorry for my noobiness, I really need to jack the car up and take a look under there.

I'm sure if you guys get 10 people together and have 1 person call and say that they would like to buy 10 sets and are wondering what it would cost you could get some kind of deal.
JasonH
02-02-2005, 02:57 PM
His initial response to me was positive, then the second I received was rather brief and he dismissed the idea. I informed him of the number of people who had expressed "interest" or where "in" and was told that many of these people were the same ones who had expressed interest in the first GB. I can guess at what he was implying, but I had my reasons for not being able to buy a set AT THAT TIME. He still got 21orders. He added that GBs were a huge amount of work (or something to that effect), which I can certainly understand. If someone else wants to approach as well, go for it, but I may have to just go ahead an order a set so I can move forward with this project.

I dont want to beat a dead horse but how is a GB alot of work for a retailer?
He gets an idea of those involved, pushes some numbers around and voila!...comes up w/ a price. I just completed a discount price for this board for koni's and after many interested more than vansihed I just asked retailer to come up w/ a code word for us.....now we can just call and get the discount using the code........he did this knowing the group about disappeared.........thanks for your efforts though and again, GB's can be a hassle for the person trying to set it up........

having run 2 GB's its not nearly that easy. The amount of questions you get, the number of "tentatives" you get etc. make it a supreme task to weed out what is a "real number of those willing to buy" and "Tire Kickers"
The amount of lost time spent answering anf fielding questions also cuts into productive time you could spend earning capital for the company.

Dont get me wrong, by no means was I saying it was ez ...BUT....the hard part really falls on the person on this board arranging it. I always assume that those who come on board for a GB know what they want and what they are buying and so are past the point of asking often inane questions to the retailer. When we do a group buy it usually only appeals to those who already knew about the product and just were hesitating due to costs. I still think it is relatively a no brainer for the retail seller...he has a captive paying audience. If someone asks 100 questions toward the retailer and then ends up not buying(or even buying) I see it being a PITA. I just see GB participants as people in the know on the product and are ready to go based on the reduced price. Sorry to babble but these forums are wonderful and I really think if we could harness our numbers and power, we would NEVER have to pay retail if we were committed to our words.
