It's my dd, so between it and the bronco in the last pic I need to keep it somewhat comfy on the freeway. Are the race's much harsher then the sports?

Don't the ix's use a kit made by Mtech? Thats what I was told at least. My first e30 was an 88 ix, and I loved it so I was pretty stoked that this car came with the kit.

Its nice to see another Cirrusblau Metallic!

If you want it lowered, I recommend H&R Sport springs with Bilstein Sports. Know that this combo can be a bit harsh on crappy pavement. If you are fine with the stock look, stock springs with Bilstein HD's give a firm, yet supple ride.

Just suck it up and buy Bilstein Sports and Ground Control coilovers. Buy just the coilovers. You can use your stock strut hats and they work just fine. You'll have just about the same amount of money invested. 400 for GC springs and perches versus 350 or whatever the going rate for H&R springs are.

Ok I found the kit on ground controls website, I really like the idea of being able to adjust the ride height. I need new struts (mine leak) would Bilstein's be my best bet? Im curious as to why more people wouldn't do this instead of h&r's etc. It also says when ordering that you can specify the spring rate, so Im guessing I can get the ride quality I am looking for. Seems like for not much more money the adjustability is worth it. Thanks Scabzzzz!

                  I don't think they are...
But yeah I'd be stoked too, I love the flares. I wish you could get them down here in Australia...

got my races for under 250 local pickup!

They are not too harsh. H&R sports are nice too, but the races are lower [if thats what your after] GC if you want to go all out. cost a little more

The struts have more to do with the harshness of the ride than the springs do. The springs will give you a lower stance and less suspension travel. Bilstein Sports use the same damping values as Bilstein HD for example. The Sports just use a shorter stroke to accommodate less suspension travel from shorter, stiffer springs. The key is matching the damping to the springs.
I use the H&R Race springs (just a name, they are really just aggressive street springs) and Bilstein sports. The ride is tight. I don't find it overly harsh compared to my Billy Sports and H&R Sports on my E46. The E46 is definitely softer, but the ride quality between the two is not that much different. They are different cars though, so it is a bit harder to compare.

Awesome looking car dude. I love that color.

I really enjoy my HR Race + Bilstein sport combo. Its a great set up. Its not too harsh and the performance is killer.

It's really hard to make a decision on springs without testing them first. Anyone in the east bay area with h&r's, ground controls, or ie3's?
