Fitting a "raceonusa tech 2 kit"

Heres a few photos on the fitting of the replica tech 2 kits.
So far All I did was pull off the plastic bumper skin and slide the tech 2 bumper over the inner core.
Fits nice and snug. I did cut about 2 inches off each end of the core so I could pull the sides in a little. No really needed though.
The tech 2 bumper is a little thin across the top so I used some 1/8 drill bits and drilled through the bumper and the core then used a shit load of rivets to connect the tech 2 to the core.
Im going to lay 2 layers of glass over it to make the top of the bumper stronger and to extend the lip a little. Then block the whole thing out and add a thin coat of evercoat bondo. ( light weight body filler. )
The sides where it connects into the wheel wells is nice other then the tips of the bumper need very little work to make it perfect.
all in all the rear bumper is nice and I really had no issues with fitting it to the car.

    Heres a few photos.
I will take more when the process moves along..

I got the whole kit. The rear is one piece. The front is 2 pieces and the sides are 1 piece for each door then the rest is 1 piece.
Every thing looks good other then the bottom of the skirts seem to bend down a little, nothing some cutting and glassing cant fix.
I didnt expect it to fit perfect for it not being OEM and only costing 400 shipped.

this just goes to show, you really need to have some body work skills to install a replica kit properly. every1 always cries about how shitty replica kits fit, but if you can have it done by a pro or have skills yourself, it can come out cool.

Im sure you could, but it all depends on how wavy you mind the top of the bumper being.

Thank you, I will post up info as I do. This may not be the best thread but it will help you all get a idea of what kinda needs to be done to make something like this work.
Im no pro at body work but I have good enough skills that I think I can make it look the way I want.

                    called.

They had it listed on ebay like a month or so ago for 399 OBO and 150 shipping.
Called and worked out a deal, 2-3 weeks later it showed up.

I ran over to the house and gabbed the ones skirt because I was going to fit it up for you and take a photo but its crazy how off it is.
The door cap is 1/4 inch short and it really doesnt fit the door well at all.
I noticed when I put the side skirt and caps up for the rest the front fender cap was 1/4 inch long and the rear was just out of wack.
Sooo, my plan now is to cut the upper caps off and just try to use the skirts.
I have extensive fender rolling all around to clear my wheels.
So I dont really want to mess with fitting the caps on the sides.

So this kit covers the bottom metal pieces of the bumper? So I could have real plastic bumpers? Because if so, I might buy this and maybe hack the bottom of the bumper so I can have a plastic bumper instead of the metal lower pieces.
I got a fender roller now! LMK if you need me to roll your fenders or want to rent the tool from me locally.

you will have to buy the kit thats made for your year.
I would say you will be better off using the plastic bumper shocks and cores.

Anyways I wanted to work on the bumper last night but I couldnt find any of my fiberglass stuff so I decided I would just shave the bmw emblem off the trunk..
anyways heres some photos of that till I get a chance to go get some fiberglass stuff....

start with the trunk like this.

remove the emblem with a flat head screwdriver.

                            cut out a square.

cut your patch panel out of flat stock.

bend it and make sure it fits real nice.

start with a few tacks to make sure it is even all around.

keep moving around and add a few more tacks.

should look like this when your done welding.

                            little tack welds.

grind it all smoth with a grinder or flap disc.

spray some primer sealer and be done till its bondo time.

Since golde30 wanted to see how the sides looked I went and got them like I had said before.
I was measuring and checking them out and the fit was really bad, So I just cut the caps off and now Im just going to run the tech 2 slirts alone.

heres a few photos of that too..

Thats all for today. Im heading out of town today to pick up a new e30.
Will update when I get the stuff to do the rear bumper.
