    Rogan's kit-bashed 325e

It's put together from several cars.. the '85 shell was a tudor roller with no interior, and a broke-dick motor.

So I got an M42 from a buddy of mine's '91 iS, as well as the interior. The rest is here/there stuff. I should have taken more pictures along the last week or so we've been working on it..

As of last night, the engine is running, and there's only a couple of electrical things in need of attention, that I can't locate any good wiring info on..

    TACH
Engine Oil light on the warning thingy in the ceiling
    and some other electrical odds/ends..

We're going to squish the DBs, dump the suspension and clean it, hopefully this weekend.. I'll be dropped on Dinan springs, and coilovers.

I'll add pics (what I took at like 3am last night) from my phone, shortly..

thanks. the first picture doesn't show it, but if you look closely, i started buffing on the bootlid. I did the right-half of it, and was amazed at how well the paint came back! It's quite shiny, actually!

I'll detail more on the return to life of this junk-destined E30..

I'm currently trying to figure out the last 7 remaining wires in the C101 conversion from '91 to '85 harness. The wiring diagrams I have found, show about 8-9 empty pins, but this one actually has wires on those pins.. I've matched wire-to-wire from the early to late C101 connector, but the late C101 has more wires.. I need to figure out a couple main ones, like the tach wire from C101 to somewhere in the car, as the tach is inop right now..

Dinan springs and coilovers? How's that work?

Good project, M42 in an early model is an interesting swap.

Stevie - thanks! I can't wait to get it on the road..

Raxe - Let me restate.. Dinan rear springs, and coilovers on the front.. :)

Gearhead - found out last night, that the DME is also chipped.. The M42, for being stock otherwise, revs very quick.. I was quite surprised; I wasn't expecting it to rapp up that fast..

Now, I need to get that tach-wire sorted..

                      So,
dirty30 and I got a lot more done on my 325 today..
rear Dinan springs in, front coilovers on, driveshaft, battery, guibo in. filled the rad with coolant, but struggling with getting the system burped.. BUT, the car did move under it's own power. YAY!

I need to figure out a couple things with some wiring, though.. the 'Engine Oil' light on the check control panel is lit, and I've got no tach signal..

Maybe I should start a thread elsewhere to try and get some info/help on it?

I downloaded the electrical manuals for both the '85 and the '91. However, i can't find any detailed info for the above issues.

as far as the engine oil light above in the check panel the light will not extinguish unless you have a level sender in your oil pan like the old m20b27 had. A way to make it extinguish however is to track down the plug for the sender and ground it out to itself thus making the light go out. And for the rest of the wiring how did you manage to go from the square plug body harness to the round? there may be a small wiring discrepancy there...that and the plug on the back of your cluster needs to be swapped out from the eta motor to the m42 one for it to recieve the proper signal. When i looked at doing the swap you did but reversed in my 318is so im pretty well versed in all the electrical stuff, PM me if you need any help lol.
                            Good luck!

I basically took the wiring schematic for the eta car (square) and the round plug for the 91 schematics, sat down and matched wire function for wire function. The problem is, that the body-side of the C101 pigtail section was a "donor" from the junk yard.. It's wiring/pin layout is different than the 91 E30/M42 C101 plug. I.E.: wires in places the schematic says there isn't..

As for the cluster, I've installed a 325i cluster (with 7k tach) and a 4cyl decoder plug. The tach is still inop.

Ive got a sneaky suspicion that it's one of those 7 remaining wires in C101. The square plug had no tach wire listed.. And I had no wires left over from the square plug, like I do with the round one..
