    Will this exhaust setup work?

I'm putting in an s50 and plan to use the stock s50 manifolds to some midpipes from the same '95 m3 to an Ireland Engineering (ebay) stainless cat-back.

I'm trying to keep her close to stock sounding as far as noise levels.

It would be perfect if these pieces line up without a trip to the exhaust shop.

Anybody see any problems with this?
    thanks

That will flow just as well, if not better then the stock e36 m3 exhaust. You'll be fine and it should purr nicely. May be a little raspy at worst, and not too loud.

You should put an X pipe in between the mid pipes and the cat back to clean up the exhaust not and promote better flow.

My main concern dealing with "will it work" is will the joints line up?

Will these pieces bolt up to one-another or will I need to hit a shop?

      thanks,

          I have OBD2 manifolds>OBD2 mids>e36 muffler (soon to be e36 m3).

It will fit, but it's not a "drag and drop" bolt in, IMO. I had to make a few cuts to the OBD2 mids to make them clear the sway bar and the stock suspension lollipop. If you have the Treehouse CABs and shim the engine it may bolt in as-is.

I also had to remove heat shielding to get it to tuck, but now it fits nice and snug. I think even better than stock because I have access to the back of my transmission.

The OBD2 mids have an integrated X-pipe after the cats.

It's slightly heavy, but I think that's beneficial to the sound. There's not a bit of tinniness or rasp to it.

The pictures show how the stock e30 cat with a modified front section looks next to the OBD2 section before I modified it.

You know hoveringuy, you really should put the jack stands on the chassis support bar rather than the control arm... tsk tsk!

              Busted!

I figured the CAB is bolted to the frame and was an acceptable, solid place. I never really thought about it like that, though.

I appreciate the offers guys, but I've already got these components in my possession. Just wondering how much manipulation/fab work I am in for.

Well it isn't that bad. Just might be a contributer as to why some people's control arms snap under abuse at the track? lol. Wild guess.

Anyways, to the OP, if it helps any, I bought a complete obd2 exhaust setup to run on my e30. Through personal experience, everything was fine except for the exhaust. The catback's pipes hang really low below the trailing arms and because the angle and length of the midpipes differ from the e30s it causes the exhaust to be contorted towards the center of the car rather than straight or to the left away from the mid line of the car. I could have made the exhaust to work by cutting/repositioning the angles of the pipes but I didn't want to hack up a mint 98 m3 muffler and sold it for 150 instead. One thing that was great though was the e36 m3 muffler was very very quiet. I just didn't like how big it looked at the ass of the e30 as it doesn't tuck in very well. Kind of reminds me of a greddy exhaust on a civic just without the bling. Good luck.

The ebay cat-back is designed for e30 use. Any idea if it will line up with obdI m3 midpipes?

It looks like the OBDII midpipes are a bit longer than the stock E30. If you're using OBDII headers, OBDII midpipes, and an E36 M3 catback along with Treehouse bushings, how far out do the tailpipes stick? Seems like it'd be a little long. I'm trying to figure out a solution without having to drag it to a muffler shop or without cutting into anything. May not be possible.

You are correct. I found that cutting 1 1/2 inches off the e36 muffler was perfect. The exhaust tips also need to be cut off and re-welded at an angle to fit through the valence centered.

Everything does fit very nicely now.

would you happen to have any pictures of the setup?

I know this isn't the picture you're looking for, but it shows the relative positions of the two mufflers when the exhaust manifold flanges are even.

This is an unmodified e36 muffler. As is, the back of the muffler would come within about an inch of the rear valence and the middle of the right exhaust tip would be at the right edge of the valence cutout.

By shortening the pipes up near the top of the picture, it gives a few more inches of room so that when the tips are cut and rewelded at an angle they fit perfectly.

I just got done fitting the M3 muffler and haven't put the tips back on yet. I'll take a picture and post it as soon as I do.

Another thing about the e36 mufflers... they are much easier to hang! I can take it off and put it back on in about a minute. I hated the e30 muffler straps.
