Another what all do I need thread

So its time for a motor swap for the white car, the clutch went out so it seems only obvious to swap it! car in question is an 89 325i 5spd. the donor car is a complete e34 89 535i 5speed. from what i've read so far i have pretty ideal conditions just trying to make a complete list before teardown.

So engine, tranny and engine harness from the 535i...
    an e28 535i radiator?
use the front half of the e34 driveshaft with the rear of my e30 shaft?
    joe funk engine mounts
stock e30 engine and tranny rubber mounts?

I figure i will use the expansion tank from the donor e34 because that seems easiest. which radiator hoses? i think funk said 88 635?

The e34 downpipes will slide over the current pipes?

planning on a quick turn around for this swap, seems like a pretty straight forward one.

Thanks for your help guys, i tried to research as much as i could, just looking for confirmation on a few things.

    yes

use the front half of the e34 driveshaft with the rear of my e30 shaft?
some people have had different results with this. With funkmasta's mounts, an e28 front shaft and e30 rear worked (on mine with a g260 and another in town with a g265). Give this a shot first before getting one custom made.

    joe funk engine mounts
If you can get ahold of him, yes. Otherwise e30.de or good&tight has mounts as well.

stock e30 engine and tranny rubber mounts?
I would upgrade to urethane if you don't mind a little vibration.

Stock e30 expansion tank will work. I used e28 hoses. If you want the heater hooked up, I believe e34 hoses work (don't quote me on this).

The e34 downpipes will slide over the current pipes?
not sure on this one. I went with the b34 manifolds and down pipes because they are better suited to make a turbo adapter from (later down the road). They don't flow as much as the b35 pipes do though.

      ^pretty much that.

Except that you can use a big guibo super eta drive shaft also.

Thanks for the good news guys. im trying to use what i already have. so its the front shaft from an e28 not the e34 donor shaft? i suppose i will start looking for a big guibo eta shaft or an e28 front shaft.

another question. do you all use electric fans or no fan? the stock electric fan is long gone but i do have an extra aftermarket fan in the storage unit.

I'd say use the electric fan. Everyone else basically does. You probably wouldn't be able to get away with no fan; even if you could it wouldn't be worth the risk.

MacBudd: I´m doing a similar swap next weekend, only the donor is a 91 535i auto. I hear 5 speeds are hard to come by. My recipient car is a 318 (5spd) instead, so I know some exhaust improvements are on the way. Will I have any trouble with the harness, being an automatic?
What about the oil pan? will it clear no problems?

Measure the front half of the m20 drive shaft.
If the e28 or e34 piece is any bit longer then the m20, it will not work.

I would just use the E30 harness and simply plug everything right up to c101 and extend a couple of wires. I have a E28 front driveshaft I need to unload. PM me if you want it.

My advice is that if you have a g265 try to find someone that will trade you for a g260. I have found no driveshaft combo that works with the g265. With the g260 and funks mounts you can use an off the shelf 325e (big-guibo) driveshaft and save yourself a lot of headache.

I'm getting excited now. I went and looked at the e34 again today and it fired right up. my old shop used to do the repairs on it so i printed off the service records. new cap, rotor, plugs, water pump, t-stat in the last 3k! interior is perfect too. I have a friend with 2 e34s and he is going in half on the donor car with me. the car was only 500 so i am only out 250 for the package.

Heres a pic of the receiving e30:

                    And the donor e34:

The B35 down pipes slip over right over the stock exhaust pipes. Just cut the B35 pipes far back enough to the front of the cat on your 325 exhaust.

With your mounts in the position 1? (no firewall modification position) which driveshaft is choice? any combo with what i have gonna work? and do i use m20 style rubber/urethane mounts with your brackets? i dont need AC and i dont want to modify my firewall but wouldnt rule out turbo later. So with your position 1 mounts whats the ideal driveshaft?

Also i heard the 89 e34 engine harness was a plug and play for an 89 e30. 20 pin? whats the benefit of running the m20 harness then? And the radiator in my DD e28 535is just blew out so now my extra for this swap is gonna have to go in that. gotta find another radiator now.

Position 1 needs no firewall mods. For drive shaft check this thread post # 19 http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...=132946&page=2 I think he used the 325i front half or just pm him to find out.

                          Yes M20 rubber/urethane mounts.
As far as the wiring I don't know.

I have a very good E28 radiator that I can sell you.

There is no benefit to using e30 harness.

Would you use it instead of making a jumper cable from 25 pin to 20? That's my dilemma at the moment.
