I reckon I'll get kicked out for this but...

I'm getting an E34 tomorrow. Saw it on CL and swooped in, made an offer, and he took it. It's not my old E30, but it's tighter and smoother than all of the other ones I looked at except Sam's (which I totally regret not getting, he was right, the 325e's are DOGS).

Some specs, pictures as they come.

    1991 535i
    5-speed transmission
    Green with tan leather
    198,000 miles
Bad OBC, complete maintenance recs, good maintenance history
    Sunbaked hood and roof

Anyway, if anyone has any tips or advice, especially on how to get the OBC working, I'd be much obliged!

    My new friend

Ha ha!! I actually looked at that E34 and test drove it when he first listed it!!! Had too many small problems to be a good car for the wife, although if I was in the market for myself, I would have bought it (for a cheaper price). the M30B35 is an engine with a ton of potential (read: turbo) and it is manual, which ensures that you stay in the club! And Luke is right, E34s get alot of love here, as opposed to the E36 for example.

      congrats on the new acquisition!

EDIT: Oh and I hope you got it for a good price!! the original price of $2500 (the first time he listed it) was a bit high for me.

Looks sweet. You can prolly partially revive that paint with some rubbing compound and a polisher.

Sam, what turned you off? Maybe I didn't get a close enough look at it, ha ha. I am getting it for 2100. Actually jumping in the car right now...

Will, I would have killed for a touring. I actually briefly lost my mind and considered a 525iT with an autobox...

It was the fact that I was looking for a good family car for my wife, and the ideal candidate would have to be in good shape with everything in working order, and this car had issues with the seat and the suspension was sloppy and it had high miles and it needed a paint job and stuff.

If it was for me, it would be a different story. I would have offered the guy something like what you got it for and started tearing the suspension apart and stripping it down for paint...

Yeah I noticed it wallowing a little bit on I-25 on my way home, but I'm gonna deal with that for awhile. The seat is luckily in my comfort zone, but perhaps in the very edge of it, so I'd like to get the motor working again before I head out on my next trip. We'll see I suppose...

Brett, jack up the car and take a look at the front suspension. Give everything a good wiggle, you may find a bad ball joint or something. And good luck with it, make sure you change that timing belt! (M30s have T-belts, right?)

I would have kept my e34 535i if it was a manual. Good cars, gave me no problems in the 2.5 years I owned it.
