CNN Co-Founder: CNN Is at Risk of Becoming a Bad Joke

    HA HA!

Just how bad have things gotten at the low rated CNN? So bad that the CNN co-founder, Reese Schonfeld has written in his Huffington Post blog that it is at risk of becoming a bad joke:
I think CNN is at risk of becoming a bad joke. Late night comics and cartoonists are already using them as a gag line. Newspapers are asking "experts" how to save them. It's time for a major change, before moving from "joke" to "tired joke". Writing this is getting tired, too. It's making me feel cruel, and, even if April is the cruelest month, I'd rather be writing about something else.
Ouch! Schonfeld then relays the sad CNN ratings stats:
The April ratings are in and CNN is at its lowest point in my memory. All four of the major news networks lost numbers from last April to this April, but in percentages, CNN was down about twice as much as any of its competitors. In prime time, Fox News lost 19 percent of its viewers, and CNN lost 38 percent. In the key 25-54 demographic, Fox News was down 13 percent and CNN was down more than three times as many, 41%. In total day, Fox News was down 17 percent and CNN was down 36 percent, and again in the 25-54 age group, Fox News was down 16 percent and CNN was down 35 percent.
Somehow I don't think Schonfeld will be invited to any CNN parties anytime soon. Not even its wake.

      and the New York Times?

CNN, which invented the cable news network more than two decades ago, finishes fourth behind Fox News, MSNBC and its own HLN.

"The results demonstrate once more the apparent preference of viewers for opinion-oriented shows from the news networks in prime time.
CNN has steered opinion hosts like Nancy Grace to HLN, while maintaining more news-oriented shows on CNN itself. When news events are not being intensely followed, CNN executives acknowledge, viewers seem to be looking for partisan views more than objective coverage."

        Say it ain't so.;)

Exactly why ratings mean nothing. The networks that are the most entertaining to watch have the highest ratings. More people consistantly tune into American Idol than the State of the Union address.

CNN is still the best place to get headline news, you know, the worthwhile stuff. Nobody is concerned with oil spills and devastating earthquakes though, all they want to hear about is how liberals are sent from Satan to destroy America.

The whole purpose of Fox News, and MSNBC for that matter, is to distribute the opinion of a small group of people. It is not even real news. They are not concerned with reporting the facts and will say whatever they deem necessary in order to villainize opposing opinions. The problem is that people are too stupid to form their own opinions so they watch these so called "news" channels to absorb the opinions of others. These opinions then transfer to the voting booth. Cable news is a political tool to take advantage of the under educated sheeple of this country. I cannot respect the opinion of someone who gets their "news" from these opinion shows.
