UMMM If I have a choice NO. But to feed all the people on this ball of dirt we have to keep upping our food production capacity.

I like my getting foods locally and from my own garden and other sources of non processed shit.

I'm guessing you didn't read the article OR watch the links.

GM food isn't new, the "alleged" outrageous health detriments are something that haven't been measured in the mainstream media.

I've known about some of these things but was never freaked out till the whole Salmon thing.
They have no idea how this might effect humans. Or better yet they know it will effect humans.
MSG and Aspartame I have already wiped from my diet for the most part. Once in a while I'll dig into a bag of Doritos but Aspartame actually make my stomach all messed up. And we buy our water from a bottler not from the communal cesspool tap. I just don't trust it. Specially since they started tapping into the Willamette river (still known as a bio hazard) for some of this areas water supply.

There still wouldn't be a food shortage even without all these genetically modified food. But I'd bet these farmers don't get their subsidies if they don't use a certain type of soil and seed.

Years back we started to sell rice to I believe India and it was modified so it couldn't reseed itself and they had to continually buy the seed with each crop.

OK that dude is paranoid as fuck. Is he wrong? No. Could he be more effective if he came across as less paranoid? Probably

Fluoridated water is a terrible idea. Take it as a pill if you need it, don't dump it in my water. But then again I have a private well, and a RO system, so I have zip to worry about - aside from the deionized water leaching lead out of the brass, but hell, something has to kill me, right? Sometimes I drink right from the hose. that can't be good for me.

As for fluoride in toothpaste? Shut the fuck up. don't eat it.

As for corn, well what's the difference between selective breeding and GMO? breeding for genetic traits, or doing it manually? Corn as we know it today didn't exist without intervention, it's about as unnatural as "natural" gets. Same goes for beef cattle and domesticated dogs.

Sperm count of the US is a problem? Really? When was the last time you looked at a family and said, "poor them, they should have more kids"? If you can't have kids with your partner, boo hoo. Try someone else. That sounds much more natural than the other options.

As for what the average person buys at the store, that's not surprising. People are dumb.

If you don't want the sugar/calories in soft drinks, don't drink soda. Have a glass of water instead. Sugars are chemicals. Things that aren't sugar don't taste like sugar, because they're not sugar.
I can taste the difference between KCl and NaCl. It's very obvious.

Or do what I do and drink a half gallon of milk a day. good shit.

I've got 700lbs of bacon walking around the yard right now, being fed local feedstock, acorns, pumpkins, and leftovers (no pork, of course). venison in the freezer (and in the yard, waiting to be shot and tagged), 20 something chickens in the yard, so I have fresh eggs and fresh chicken whenever I want.

Here's a list of natural foods that are poisonous. I'm glad I have a liver.

raw cashews - oils are similar to those of poison ivy.
Sorghum (can kill horses) - nitrates and cyanide
              Apple seeds - cyanide
fava beans - can cause "favism" in some folks who are genetically deficient in G6PD. For those susceptible (defective?) , it can be fatal.
Raw eggs - can cause iron deficiency if eaten in excess, as well as B-vitamin deficiency.
              Potatoes - solanine and chaconine
              Spinach and Rhubarb - oxalates
raw pineapple - contains bromelain, which breaks down protein. That's why fresh pineapple - has "bite" - it's dissolving you.
avocado - poisonous to most things that aren't human. surface oils are similar to those of poison ivy.
              etc...

Most plants don't want to be eaten, they're trying to reproduce, and reduce the chance that that process will be interrupted.

So what's gonna kill you? Your food? Trauma? 'Natural Causes'?

Unless you grow your own shit then your only alternative is to buy organic and get raped at the register. I eat clean because I like to stay in shape but as bad as it all may be we are living longer and to tell you the truth I don't want to live long enough to be shitting myself and not be able to get wood. Ehh I'm always on the fence about this stuff. Local farmers are the way to go though. All the outbreaks and diseased food comes from big manufactures.

Based on planting or growing or both? I see some crops being lost due to pests and bad growing seasons but we are far from a food shortage.
I think we would have less food but I seriously doubt we'd have a shortage.

For the developed world, well, it depends on how far you go. Most people get gene splicing mixed up with engineering but if we were not allowed to create hybrid crops then even we would not be sustainable. Underdeveloped and developing nations would have issues similarly to the 3rd world and, well, the 3rd world would be in a worse situation than they are now.

This shit has been going on for longer than just the past few decades but hard core for the last 50. Cloning of plants and hybridization is what keeps modern agriculture alive. There is nothing natural about those rows of corn/vines/etc. Those have all been spliced with a heartier rootstock or something similar to make them thrive in environments or resist diseases that the native plant never could on its own.

Not a fan of all the "RoundUp Ready" or other related types of food that grow in high pesticide environments. No interest in eating a quart of pesticide with dinner. Also, I eat lots of heirloom type produce.
