e36 or e30? I cant choose pros and cons please

I bought a 328is from a mechanic who couldnt fix it (no power to fuel pump)
the owner of the car was fed up with the mechanic enough to sell it to me provided I paid the mechanic bills plus $200

purchase of the car (with delivery) = $575
    battery is dead = $100
new (used) hood = $40 (dont ask)
and I have to get a window motor and figure out why the cluster is not working
then it will be as good as new (well 240k miles new)

under a grand for the car pretty much

interoir is in pretty damn good condition, but dirty, and the motor runs fine, and the trans shifts good as well

so thats the story for the e36
I bought it to turn and sell, but I'm starting to like it

    so here is my question
should I keep it and do what I can to build it
or should I sell it and use the profit to build a turbo e30? (super eta style)

    I've had 2 e30's before, but never a e36

    what would ya'll do?

    the trucks mine too

keep it an build it. I have my e36 as a daily and I love it. I think a solid 2dr e36 for under a grand is a serious steal. At worst you can part it out and keep the engine and drive train to swap into an e30.

I went from an E30 to an E36 a few years back. I don't have an E36 anymore, but I do have 2 E30's. I think that sums up my feelings on the E36, and its probably the same with the majority of folks on here. After all, this is an E30 forum.

My E36 was a nice 'comfortable' daily. And if you are just looking for that they will suit you fine. You get more power with the E36, but you also get a lot more weight and driver's aids. I just feel more in tune with the driving 'experience' in a simple tossable E30.

For what its worth though, my E36 was a great long-distance cruiser. At least untill all the E36 cooling and electrical (windows especially) issues drove me mad and I traded it in on my R56 MCS.

If the choice is between an E30 and E36 the answer should be obvious.

The E36 looks clean. I would keep it and make it a sleeper.

I've had both, and currently drive an E36 M3.

The car isn't as reliable as an E30, but feels better to me. Slightly more modern, classically good looks, and excellent performance for the price.

You bought it for under a grand. It will probably need another $2k in the next couple years of work, less if you have the time/space to DIY (sounds like you do).

My E36 makes me smile and giggle each time I drive it. I'd like to get another E30 for a project, but for a DD/Track car, I love my E36.

When I only had an E30, I drove a buddy's E36 325i from Utah back to CO (looong story) and fell in love with the E36's no-nonsense DD/road trip abilities. I dunno if that answers your questions, but I'd keep the E36 provided it's not as much of a basket case as mine was when I bought it.

I'd keep the e36 until the cooling system takes a shit or the rear takes a shit and then pull the motor, I LOVE my e36 m3 because its a better cruiser than an e30, obviously e30's are more fun.

drive the e36 for the next 2 weeks(thats when the flair of it will wear off)- then sell it.

i bought a 328is in august. i love it, and it's had almost zero issue. i had to fix a few small things when i bought it, like a wheel bearing and the blower fan, but other than that it's been reliable and a lot of fun

If you drive your e30 on stairs, you're gonna have a bad time.
