^ agreed. have you checked out the engine yet? What about the swap parts, are you getting the modified transmission brace, ix/944/e21/thr brake booster, etc?

          You are crazy Devon.
You change what you are doing to your car every week. Last week you wanted me to go pick up a turbo with you and now you are doing a m50 swap?

I imagine Joe will be doing a lot of the work on this considering you have to use his shop/tools anyway! haha. I might be down to come help depending on days and what not.

I agree with Joe, I would definitely get a comp. test before you swap. Even if it wasn't an insane deal, I would still want to have a comp. test done to make sure it wasn't shit. lol.

I'd still rather have a turbo m20 than a m50 swap with bolt ons. Especially for real speed. But the again you can always boost the m50 and fly too. Whatever you decide garage rent isn't free and you will be cleaning that place when you are done... Make sure you get the driveshaft and tranny if its a zf310/320 or getrag g250. I think you will need his throttle cable as well. you can move your booster over and use the stock one. What about cooling? You are gonna need an electric fan, lower temp thermostat and fan switch and the water pump. Also I would do the rear main seal and oil pan gasket while it is out. And you should get a 3.25Lsd if it is a g250 or zf 310/320. I have one 350 its yours.

I hate to be the debby downer, but there's a 90 percent chance this wont happen in under a week. I did MONTHS of research and gathering parts and it took considerably longer than a week.

An engine swap is not something to be done on a whim because it looks like a good idea. There are a plethora of little nick nacks and items that you WILL forget. Gaskets, water pump, thermostat housing, clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing, shifter bushings, harness, all the sensors etc etc etc.

The list goes on and on and it really doesnt make sense to go and pull your old motor in favor of another motor with unknown history/maintenance only to have to pull it back out and do it all over again. Even with the most experienced crew of guys, unless you have ALL of the parts on hand and one of the guys in your crew can weld up the exhaust... it AINT GUNNA HAPPEN

Whoa, hostility. I didn't say anything against it, just saying you change your mind awfully quick. First it was S50, then turbo, then now you are swapping for a m50.
Yeah, you did help me get my guibo out, just cause I didn't have enough hands...... not like I didn't know what I was doing?

Devon, from a guy who's done the swap, I think 1 week is waaaay too optimistic. I spent months doing research, and didn't start until I thought I had everything. Boy was I wrong. It took me ~9 months to do the swap.

I call BS. you aren't doing your first motor swap in 2 days. You arent pulling an engine cleaning and replacing the gaskets plugs wp tstat oil pump pick up, clutch flywheel tranny seals sensors etc etc cleaning the engine bay mounting the engine and wiring it up in 2 days! An experienced team with alll the right parts? Possible, but thats not what we're talking about here

Its going to take a month minimum to track down and order all the maintenance parts, then on top of that, the swap parts, oil pan, dip stick ecu etc etc.

Please lets not make this seem like a weekend project. Changing a clutch is a weekend job if everything goes well and you have the parts. But an engine swap for a first timer? not happening.

pretty upset, the guy i was supposed to get motor from dropped off the planet, so guess i'll have to find a different motor and source everything. no worries.

oh and here is background on the original deal i had with this guy.

his end- m50 swapped e30, he wanted to revert it back to stock(something about passing it on to his brother), motor had already been pulled, he had all the swap parts, his car was a 89, mine a 90, pretty straight forward.

my end- giving him my driveline, motor, trans, diff, drive shaft, whole shabang.
i know i can have my motor/driveline out in a day. also know me and joe can get a motor in a car and bolted up in a day(his m42). then rest of week would just be sorting odds and ends and making sense of everything.

sadly i dont think i will get to do this and that sucks. was really hoping to have it workout, oh well.

lol my ego wouldn't have let me fail.

i'll still have a m50, just not as soon as i was hoping.
