    Oil cooler

As a heads-up, we've decided to go ahead and install an oil cooler in the race-car. After a half-dozen laps on-track, oil-temps were approaching 270F rather quickly. Our temp sender is plumbed immediately after the pump, as the oil comes out of the block, so any passive cooling from the external filter is unknown.

I am still contemplating adding one, as well. Obviously, yours is much more severe duty, being a track car, but it can't hurt to have one on a street car. Plus, with all of the plumbing changes around that left side mount, it is really a simple addition...

Yea, oil-cooler won't hurt you, especially in a race car :)
On a hot day and hard driving the oil temps on my cabrio climb to around 110-120C, though on a normal drive they stay just below 100C (water thermostat is 95C so that's about right then).

Btw, have you thought about power-steering oil cooler as well (or do you use PS on race-car?)

The cars where these nice V8's come out from have PS oil-cooling circuit as default, which would be quite easy to fabricate also to E30.

What about transmission and differential cooling, have you done any modifications regarding them?

Lots of questions, lots of different solutions :)

Most production-based race-cars have PS, if originally equipped. Previously, the e30 has not needed anything beyond the stock setup for sufficient cooling. We've eliminated the extra piping in front of the rack, so it will be interesting to see if the PS needs active cooling now. I suspect not.

Depending on the platform, we'll run diff/trans coolers. They are absolutely mandatory in Corvettes, for example. Currently, we have no trans cooler in the e30, and simply use the finned motor-sport cover for the diff. Redline MTL in the trans, and Mobil1 in the diff.
