    Parts from a m30b35 on a b34

I have a m30b34 that was completely rebuilt from an E28 535i 9/86 that I will be putting in my 89 325is. My question is I have access to a E32 735iL auto 4/88 and I want to know what I should take off of it and put on my engine, I can have all I want off of it for $100. I want convert to motronic 1.3 so I am getting the ECU, wire harness, injectors, ICV, CPS and wheel. What else should I get to make the best running and looking engine I can for now and future upgrades?

The later B35 starter is smaller/lighter and works fine. Oh yeah, B35 exhaust manifolds and down pipes. B35 air cleaner looks a bit better I think.

b35s have larger valves and a hotter cam IIRC, so the whole head would be an improvement. I'm not sure about swapping b35 heads on to b34 blocks though, it's not something I'm familiar with.

You lose compression, the chambers are bigger on a B35 head. Search mye28.com

How about putting the b35 cam in the b34 head?

That's a good upgrade and will swap right in.

What about the intake are they compatible and is there differences between the two? How about the oil filter canister, is one better than the other? The gasket is the same part number so i'm assuming they are compatible. Seams like the b35 one would make it easier to change the filter.

The only things worth changing over would be the electronics and maybe the cam.

Did you buy the engine already "rebuilt" or did you rebuild it yourself?

It was rebuilt before I bought it. I was actually in the middle of gathering parts for a 2.8 stroker build when the opportunity for the rebuilt m30b34 engine came up. I haven't had it long enough to go through it all but it looks like its rebuilt.

THIS, Mye28.com has lots of good info on these engines and their upgrades. I am actually helping a friend upgrade his b34 with b35 pistons and cam. This makes the b34 a high comp engine, 9.7 to 1 to be exact. Then you upgrade the electronics to motronic 1.3, it will idle way smoother, and gas millage will get better.

The b35 intake manifold does flow better, but you would have to port the head to match the difference in shape between the intake ports on the head and the intake runners on the manifold. It could potentially be a good option if you want to take the time to grind out your head.

Euro b34 head is an upgrade for a b34, straight swap. It will raise compression and has a hotter cam. Finding one can be a bit tough.

Would like to know a little more about b35 pistons in a b34. Is there any machining required or is it drop in?
