How come stuff like this is not on fox news?

A standoff is underway in Texas over construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, which would run oil from the Canadian tar sands fields to U.S. refineries on the Gulf Coast. In a protest now entering its fourth week, dozens of environmental activists working with local Texas landowners have blocked the pipeline’s path with tree sits and other nonviolent protests. We speak to Susan Scott, who owns land where the pipeline will run; actress Daryl Hannah, who was arrested there last week and has long been active in protests against the pipeline; and Tar Sands Blockade coalition spokesperson Ron Seifert. I'll check back for your response sleeve, but please refrain from name calling, and recall your William Pitt quote, when arguing in favor of the pipeline, if that is your stance.

Cale, what old failing infrastructure? Is there another oil pipeline that runs down the middle of the United States?

The way I see it event's like this, land being taken from owners as described by them underhandedly, are story's that unite American people, regardless of race, religion or whatever, against a common "evil" if you will. Reason being how would you feel if they took your property, would you be cool with it? No! right? Therefore more individuals are likely to come together.

What do I see on mainstream national news networks? I see, is your neighbor Black? watch out! Is your neighbor Muslim? Watch out! Is your neighbor a middle aged single white guy? Watch out!, probably a pedo, or gay or a murderer or all three. Republicans are stupid, Democrats are stupid, Mitt Romney hates poor people (true, but..), Obama is a liar, what ever, all dividing subjects.

Just kinda tried of it. On to my stance on the pipeline.

I agree that developing infrastructure in our country is what is supposed to happen in order to advance our way of life and create a strong economy, but with projects like this pipeline carry with them great possible consequences, like ruining water supply's in places that already have name's like "Cancer Alley". They've already ruined plenty of places fracking to extract natural gas. Oil companies can't seem to drill anywhere without environmentally catastrophic oil spills either on land or sea. Please refer to any oil extraction projects in Africa, South America, Gulf of Mexico etc.

hmm, there is a similar story in the democracy now broadcast that says employees of Koch Industries had a mandatory pro-Mitt event. A recorded statement by, I assume a company representative, says the event attendance was mandatory, but employees didn't have to go, which doesn't make sense to me.

The Keystone is an expansion of an existing pipeline, so yes there is a pipeline already running down the middle(ish) of the US.

Op, do you have any clue how many pipelines are already running around north america carrying oil and natural gas? Protest the pipelines that are half a century old and a FAR greater risk than a new one.

Welcome to Eminent domain. Bunch of houses around here got knocked down to build round-a-bouts. Tough luck. (probably why few take the time to report on something post educated people know about already)

Maybe this is a key sign that you are way too ignorant to be making judgement about the situation.

                    What pipelines?

Perhaps you could hit up google for 5 seconds before trying to argue?

SUSAN SCOTT: Well, let me clarify that, from the very beginning, the reason I accepted the money is because I was forced to accept it because of what Ron said: they threatened me with a lawsuit of eminent domain. So I just figured I’d go on and take the money and do something with it. So, tell everybody to put their shovels up. It ain’t there, OK? So, you know, from the very beginning, I have told them I did not want them.

And I feel like that our constitutional rights have been just wiped completely away, that we don’t have any more.
Someone hasn't read the Bill of Rights recently... sounds like her rights are being properly satisfied with just compensation that she accepted.

I didn't really, but seeing as there is a natural gas line to almost every home in the United States... Regardless, the XL pipeline is an extension to according to you to an already deteriorating system. Does that mean the deteriorating system will still be in place? Will it be removed? Recycled? Maintained?

OP. Yup my assessment from cales 1st response was spot on those people are idiots.

Lets get some facts out of the way 1st and foremost. The Keystone was built in 09/10 and the XL is an expansion project. Our pipeline system, in general is deteriorating.

As heeter has pointed out with his maps, there are lots of high pressure transmission lines in the USA, We have over 2 million miles of in service oil/gas/products transmission lines in this country and everyone lives with in 6 miles of one. Most were built decades ago, how often are there issues???? NOT very considering the shear amount of them. Those have been in service for 30+ years are built with softer steels, crappy anti corrosion controls and coatings, not to mention less stringent procedures and techniques and construction over sight, than we use today. The fact they are still in service and for the most part still delivering products to the tune of billions of barrels a year nearly 100% issue free, all over the place should tell you something about how well the new stuff we are building now will hold up over the next century. All that said though. they are well past service life, and need to be phased out and replaced with new stuff, the XL is one of those lines that will do being just that.

hippies hate oil we know that, especially Alberta tar sands oil. Pipelines are the flavor of the day villain of the enviro nazis. You guys protest the construction of NEW, latest and greatest tech and supplies that will take some demand off the old and decaying shit. You bitch and claim it will poison the ogallala, but totally discount the current OLD and Dieing 22,000 miles of Products line already running though the very same area. The O man hates cheap energy this is a fact. As far as "land owners, 99% of them you see on TV against it" are not along the route they my be adjacent to it but they are not getting any thing out of the deal or any lease or damages money for it so yeah, or if they are, are pissed they didnt get as much as their neighbors got in their deals.

Your video shows some people along the route, eminent domain can be a bitch. Those people were offered well beyond fair market value for the lease, and still refused, . They did not get their land taken either. They dont lose access to it, they just cant build on it or plant large trees on it and have been fairly compensated for that fact and also receive a discount on their property taxes too .

They have studied the XL to death, and have even done another reroute in Nebraska and added at least a 100 million to construction costs to do so, to appease the administration. Why do we still not have the federal permit for that 500 foot section of a 1600 mile pipeline?????

I am too tired right now to get into your misconception of Hydro Fracturing or to go find more of my posts from previous discussions on these topics to cut and past (see above) and go much further than this but lets just say I know a little bit about these things
