Do Diff Carrier Bearings Ever Wear Out?

My 320k mi diff is getting pretty loud, and from what I've read, it sounds like the pinion bearings. If I take the diff apart and only the pinion bearings look bad, would it be crazy to reuse the carrier bearings? Do the carrier bearings ever wear out? I'd rather not disturb any more parts of the diff than I have to.

Replace all 4 bearings with the races if you are going to attempt it at all; obviously bearings wear out as you just stated.

If trying to save time/effort/money just get a replacement diff to toss in.

If you have been driving it noisy for quite some time its likely the ring and pinion has been worn funny also.

If super lazy/cheap Toss diff in trash....replace w used diff

If any of the bearings in the differential need to be replaced the backlash, pinion engagement depth, and pinion pre-load have to be set. It makes no sense to to do the job half way on a differential of this age and probable mileage.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks for the direction. Just trying to potentially save some work and buying shims if the carrier bearings last 10x as long as the pinion bearings. I guess if the pinion bearings are worn enough to be loud, the carrier bearings have been operating in their mess and are no longer on the semi-infinite life plan.
