    316i M20 swap finished

    Hi guys, since M40b16 started run extremely rough, I had put the car off the road for about 3 months.

    Then I found a rebuilt M20 with a lot of goodies for a reasonable price, so I opted to go for M20 swap route :)

    The engine had following items installed;
    Metric Mechanic head bolts;
    Metric Mechanic head gasket
    Metric Mechanic "Bee Hive" valve springs and retainers
    Metric Mechanic rocker arms
    Metric Mechanic coated rod bearings
    Ishihara-Johnson teflon crank scraper
    288 Schrick camshaft
    UUC magnetic drain plug
    Oil pan baffles

    I also found slightly used Bilstein sport with H&R sport, and got 325i front brakes as well.

    Future mods:

    subframe bushings, M3 CAB, 4.10 LSD and more

        Good work!

        What M20 you running - looks like a 2.3 intake manifold? Nice... the 2.3L M20 is actually my favourite. Highly under rated - especially once you get that 4.10 diff in there.

            Thanks guys, it's M20B25 from 87 with chipped 153.

            Right now I think I have 4.27 as that's what 316i gets from the factory (and it sits little bit over 3k rpm at 100km/hr)

            It's pretty good as I don't drive on the highway that often, but 4.10 LSD would be ideal.

              Nope thats a 325i intake.

              I run a 323i intake on my 325i motor. I prefer the 323 intake to the 325

                What's the advantage of 323i intake over 325i one?

                    I know this engine! It was built by Arpi at Eurojapan for Gleb, who ran it for a day at a track with a stock ECU and Miller MAF, it ran rich.

                    Here is the Dyno for that engine (made 150hp/140tq)

                    Gleb sold it to Shane, who you probably bought this off of, and my understanding is that Shane was running mega-squirt with this motor.

                    What chip are you running? Who did your swap?

                        Nice. I bought it off from Shane and handed it to Rudy to do the swap.

                        Right now it's running chipped 153 with stock everything else. I could make little less power than that as I'm running stock headers & exhaust

                        I'll just put these updates here:
                        Took off laminX, put smoked signals and new centre cap stickers.
                        I've been driving the car everyday for about 9 months since the swap. I love the m20!

                        Right now I'm grabbing parts for rear disk swap - so far I took off the wheel bearings and cleaned up rusty rear trailing arms.

                          What H&R sport springs are these? The taller or lower ones? Also are you running all the stock pads? And are those 15in euro waves? Thanks!

                              Honestly I'm not sure whether those are taller or lower ones. I have stock pads and yes they're 15" euroweaves.
