Interest in custom built wiring harness's

As some of you know, I build custom wiring harness's as a side business. I'm curious if there's interest in e30 specific harness's for the various standalone systems people use. And set-up for whatever options people want, semi-seq injection, wasted spark, boost control, ect..

I'd like to know what people are interested in. A general harness setup that is repeatable would be far more cost efficient than doing custom deals for each person. Simply because it's not really the parts that add major cost, but the labor. What general options would people want? What kind of price point are people ok with? I know I can do a nice setup with a decent amount of options and still keep the quality of materials up to my standards for around $500 a pop. This would be along the lines of what's been available to the import scene. With 100% new parts. I can do different harness's for megasquirt, vems, aem, whatever. As long as I can get a pinout and connector it's all good.

So please let me know what you guys think. Also if you guys just have questions for your own projects on correct materials or techniques ask away.

$500? if you can do it for that little that's a pretty good deal! I have no idea how you can make money on it though. sometimes it can take several hours to piece together a simple adapter that I can nearly do from memory.

you might find a market for new stock M20 harnesses if the quality is good and you can hit that price - the Spec racers might want them, I believe new ones from BMW are NLA so they're currently recycling old ones. After 25 years of weather and abuse most of them aren't in very good shape.

the Spec racers might want them
I've thought of this, been trying to get clarification out of the spec rule board on what exactly is allowed and not allowed. Can't ever get a reply let alone an answer out of them. The wiring thing seems to be a little bit of a grey area, as the rule is loosely worded. I'd love to be able to offer something for them as I can see it being something worthwhile on just a reliability standpoint. But until I can get some clear answers from the rule board it's on hold. I'm not willing to put something out there and end up someone getting dq'ed cause of it. Wouldn't help anyone.

I can understand that fully. There's been deals where it's taken 2 month's just in planning and layout. On some of the motorsport grade harness's it can take a couple days to do a harness. Especially when using all white mil-spec wire with fully propagated ecu connectors.

For this tho, to keep that sorta pricing I need people to speak up on what options are most popular. That way I can do a single design that will work for almost everyone. I'm thinking this is what I would put into the base harness:
      semi-sequential injection wiring
wasted spark coil pack (prefer bosch motorsports 3x2)
wideband connector (this way you can just put a connector on your wb02 controller and plug it in)
boost control connector (like wb02, just plug a connector in when you need boost control)
and what ever else people here think should be included as base.

I'd also like to do something with a few of the sensors. Like instead of the idiot oil pressure light, an actual pressure sensor. That way you could actually datalog or view oil pressure in real time, the ecu can put out a signal for the stock light set to whatever trigger pressure the user wants then. Little stuff like that can make a world of difference. Could also delete one of the water temp sensors and use the ecu to send info to the gauge. But I need people to speak up. The amount of interest and feedback I'm seeing here is somewhat disappointing so far. But it's only been a couple days.

Come on people, a little feed back is all I'm looking for right now. Just some general idea's of what people are looking for/wanting. If your coming into this thread expecting pics, sorry. But I can't take pics of something that isn't made. Gotta know what people want before I can build what people want. And not gonna spend the couple hundred on materials just to do a rough draft. Sorry.

So please guys, post up idea's and comment's.

If we have to think that hard about what we might want we might as well build it ourselves...

PNP megasquirt harness's would be cool for the new MS3 and MS3 pro, problem is there are so many options available as far as system designs ,sensors to use and types of ignition systems they would all end up being custom unless you decided to create an entire kit that would supply everything to convert (basically making an entire PNP system) and then the wiring would be the same for each kit . this would drive the price up and limit the customer base to those that what that exact kit/options,almost makes it that everyone has to build their own harness . i havent built/installled a MS yet but they do sell a universal harness to make your own but i dont know how good they are....
