    Studdering and smoke

My car is a 1988 325 2.7L supereta. I started it today to come home and the idle was searching between 500-1000 RPM's and a bit of blue smoke out of the exhaust so I shut it off. I then checked all the plug wires and they were all tight. I proceeded to start the car back up. Same problem, this time more blue smoke (couldn't see through it this time) so I immediately turned off the car and called my brother to come over. The car sat for 15-20 minutes before he arrived, then I started it up so he could see and it ran perfect with a slightly louder valve tick towards the rear of the head.

Edit: I have been driving it for a few weeks now and it hasn't happened again.

Blue smoke = oil control problems. Either you have some bad rings or bad valve guides/ seals, or both. My guess is rings. If it stopped and doesn't come back though, then don't worry about it.
