    Cooked Electrical Connection: Options?

I changed out the oil pan gasket this weekend on my '89 325i vert. In the process of disconnecting things to lift the engine, the lower electrical connector that attaches to the oil level sensor literally crumbled to pieces when I touched it. It looks like 25 years of cooking next to the engine block did it in. To purchase a $150 sensor to replace the connector is extreme. Anyone know if the electrical lead to the oil level sensor can be replaced separately? Or is the wire lead an integral part of the sensor? I looked at pulling both wire ends away from the engine block to attempt to insert the loose wires into the harness connector, but the wire lengths are too short. I guess the "budget" option is to find a good connector in the junkyard and splice it into the sensor's exposed wires. Any other options?

this happened to me with my brake switch, coolant temp sensor, and my diff speed sensor. i'm probably going the junkyard route, as much as a i don't really want to

I hit the yard this afternoon & found a similar plug which I cut off. Using the ETM, I spliced a new connector onto the oil level sensor. Fortunately, the harness connector was ok. I really wasn't in the mood to screw around and "blank" up the electrical harness. What I thought was a burned harness connector was the broken piece of the sensor connector still in harness plug. Cleaned it out & the new plug snapped right in. Tomorrow, I'll fire it up and see if there's any electrician blood in me. Thanks for the help.

Been there. Mine weren't too short though, could you get both connectors out? there is like maybe 2-3 inches of slack in mine. It's just 3 wires and both sides are the same colours, nothing special about the wiring or the like so you don't even need a diagram to fix, just match the colours. I cut the connectors off both sides and replaced with a new waterproof deutsch plug. To be honest? even if you had to splice in some new wire to lengthen the pig tails, you could just cut the plugs off and crimp them together with some spade connectors. Would do the job fine.
Just a little project im working on
