buttoning up my s50 swap. Some final questions.

Finally got the motor and trans bolted in tonight - it was a TIGHT fit. I decided to run the CSS power steering blockoff and deleted the whole pump assembly. I also decided to delete the A/c, but can always add that later on. Trying to offset the weight I added from the s50 over the s14.

I really don't see any way that I can run a mechanical fan and a radiator. I'm thinking that an electric pusher fan in front of the radiator might be the way I have to do this.

Can someone help me with the proper radiator/fan/expansion tank/cooling pipe setup? I was told and e36 radiator is good, but I would prefer something with aluminum end tanks. How about a s54 z3 M roadster/coupe radiator? Do I need any special bracketry to mount the radiator?

Also, anyone have a source for replacement tie rod end boots? My tie rods are in good shape, but the boots are torn, I don't really feel like having to get new tierods because of torn boots.

    Thanks.

No A/C in south FL, brave man.

You can run an aftermarket E36 or Z3M radiator if you want something with metal end tanks. I believe you are doing a swap into an E30M so am not sure of the lower mount points. I'm sure someone will chime in with clarification. Those radiators are direct fit into late model E30s.

Most people use a late model E30 expansion tank because it fits nice and self bleeds.

There are a few places you can get tie rod boot, one for them being Pelican Parts. There are others just do a search.

I have an M42 radiator and it has worked flawlessly for me, is direct bolt in, and my car sees mostly track/autox driving. It doesn't have aluminum end tanks, but self bleeds and paired with an electric SPAL fan hasn't given me any issues at all for the past 3+ years.

If you want to mount the stock aux fan without the condenser. Check out this thread

yes, I have a 90 m3. the car is far from daily driven, so A/c isnt a big deal. I have a/c in my e36 m3 and my wagon and almost never use it (unless its raining)

What coolant pipes do I need to uses for an e36 radiator to fit? And how does it fasten to the core support? Thanks.

Btw, for those interested the proper belt length for an s50 with no power steering and no a/c is 1415mm.

You can use E36 radiator hoses with an E36 radiator. The stock E30 upper radiator mount bracket works.

              e30 M, or e30 Non-m radiator mount bracket?

considering the E30M just uses a bolt, a bushing, and some washers, the non-M E30 upper mount bracket is what you're after.

also, i've never done a swap in an E30M nor do i own one so take my replies with a grain of salt. Research is your best friend in this case.

I'm running an e30 mechanical fan (325i fan clutch and blades), and a late model e30 (e36) radiator without issues. It's a damn tight fit, but it fits. You have to install the mechanical fan first, and then install the radiator. If you want to run the e30 mishimoto radiator, a mechanical fan will fit but you'll have to get the euro low profile fan blades (p/n: 11522243303).

If you live in a hot climate, mechanical fan will always win over an electric fan.

Not to get off topic but wondering if any passerbys might have a picture running the euro blades. I may do this on my setup rather than running a puller.

ok, will the stock e30m3 radiator not work?

does anyone know what to do for a clutch line when using a e36m3 tranny (ZF) on the e30m3? the stock e30 m3 tranny has an external slave, so it wont work.

upgrading to a sS clutch line.. should I order an e30 M3 line, or e36 m3 line?

E36 M3 SS clutch line works perfectly for this application - 12" long.
