    fuel pump grounds

    My 88 325is has not run since last year due to fuel issues. I originally thought the pump itself died and I finally got the chance to install a new one but it is still not getting fuel to the engine.

    every time I jump the fuel pump relay or try to start the car, fuse eleven pops. My friends says that means there is a short somewhere. my rear wheel bearing had been bad for a while so our thought is the vibration shook something loose.

    Where should I look for the shorts?

    Shorts can generally be found in the mens department.

    If you disconnect the plug going to the pump then jump the relay, does the fuse still blow? If so then we need to start tracing wires, if not then issue lies past the connector with pump or wiring on the sending unit.

      Now the question is plaid or striped....

      So after poking around a bit more, I found out that the short is in between the relay and c101 because the relay has 12v but the fuse doesn't, nor does pin 13 of the c101.

      I guess I'll have to take out that bit of the harness or something. Any tips?

        To test this, disconnect the fuel pump. Then check resistance to ground at pin 87 of the fuel pump relay. If the short isn't present, the fuel pump is shorted. If short is present, remove the fuse and see if the short goes away. If it does, extract pin 13 of C101 and see the short goes away (with C101 connected). If it does, the short is on the body side and if it doesn't the engine harness is the problem. The next check would be to put pin 13 back in and connect C101. Then pull the fuse and see if the short goes away. If it does the problem is in the fuel pump wiring and if it doesn't the problem is between C101 and the fuse holder.
        The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
