    Brake Switch Keeps Blowing

    Thanks in Advance!

When I go on long trips with my 1990 325is, sometimes my brake switch goes out so i go to autozone and put in a new one. Well last time it went out, i went to replace it and it was too hot to even touch. So i let it cool down a bit and when i looked at the two copper connectors, one was faded real bad and the other was fine. And the one that was faded, the plastic around the copper connector was melted. Whats my problem??? Please help! I dont wanna keep buying brake switches

You have too much current in that circuit. Probably due to a short, or wrong bulbs used.

Check your bulbs, fuse rating and perhaps try an original switch. I would go OEM for the brake light switch. I'm not sure about Autozone brake light switches. It could keep you from getting a ticket or worse getting rear ended. I have several OEM used brake switches if you're interested.

A short? You sure? A short is a positive going to direct ground. Causing a fuse to blow if your lucky, otherwise it would continue until the wire or circuit failed.

Check if you have the correct fuse and correct bulbs. And like reelizmpro said get an oem switch instead of "import direct" or whatever switch auto zone sells.

Fuse number 6 and 10 should have a 7.5A fuse

Im having a problem with my brake light switch aswell and its a fae brake switch I bought from bma. My problem is that my lights dont work in the night or mornings when its cold, they work fine during the day. I adjusted the switch and its barely holding on so it comes on real fast when they work. I cleaned the contact points on the rear lights and put new bulbs and nothing.l also replaced the little box on driver side trunk with a late model one from the junkyard and nothing. Only thing I can think of is replacing the switch with a oem one. Any suggestions?
