I know that is how i did it. I replaced the throttle body heater line with that sensor and deleted the throttle body heater.

I did same. I bought a new sensor, turned it down on a grinding wherl, retapped it, and put it in where the throttle body heater went. Check my thread (s51.5 budget build thread) for pics and details.

The e36 cluster sender is integrated with the obd2 ecu sensor thus the 4 pin sensor,
Sadly it's the wrong resistance range which is why you have to use the e30 sensor still

Its not the only option...BUT, I think its the only option if you want to use your original cluster gauge.

Make sure to use a 12 mm crush washer after rethreading it as well. The original 14mm crush washer will cause it to leak, I found that out yesterday haha.

Get a VDO gauge and sensor. I have that for mine. Best peace of mind to have a real gauge.
