    Wot-Tech weld in roll cage

Ive been a bit late on this, but finally catching up on things. Earlier this year me and John over at Wot-tech talked about weld in cages, a few minutes later we were planning one out.

There are already companies that offer a weld in e30 roll cage, but they require lots of cutting and trimming, lots of tweaking, and in the end you get an OK fitting cage, me and John wanted something better. He set out to work to make me a weld in roll cage that would require very little final tweaking to fit, and fit well.

I drift, i sent him a Pro-Am/FD drift rule book and basically asked him to build a cage that would meet those rules and thats exactaly what he did, over built in some places but not to the point of waste, overbuilt to be safer without going crazy. As with any motorsport, safety is of number one importance, and John made sure of that.

Here are some photos of the build process, of which he always kept me up to date with.

As you can see, things looked great in the test car he had at the shop. I assure you that carried over to my car. I originally wanted to do gussets in the front window area, but the cage is so tight that would up not being possible...a win in my book.

John broke it down and sent out the cage, i asked him to tig together the main hoop. In hindsight this was not the best idea on my part. It did save some in the end, but due to my seating position the cross bar wound up being VERY close to the seat...luckily i like to sit a bit close but otherwise that would have had to be redone. But me being the test mule, better to work out the kinks now then later.

Besides that everything fit perfectly well. I had the caged tigged in locally by another John actually LOL at Silokin Automotive out in Long Island NY.

Here is the cage installed in my car, please ignore the fact its half painted...ive been in a rush getting things finished and painting the cage is pretty low on that list.

All in all, i couldnt have asked for better. Cage fit perfect, looks great, and most of all, will keep me safe.
