So I'm current driving across the county...Made it to SoCal!

I took a job opportunity in Southern California recently and I'm currently on my way to relocate from Columbus, Ohio. I'm sitting at some crappy hotel in Kansas City right now.

I knew this move was coming but didn't expect it to happen quite so quickly. I was originally going to move with my GF at the end of August when my lease is up. A job opportunity popped up and they want me out there yesterday so I packed up and am heading out early. Had about two weeks to get my shit ready so I've been running around like mad. I'm staying with a friend in Long Beach till I find my own place. Had to get the E30 prepped so I did all the following.
    Changed:
    -oil/filter
    -dif fluid
-dif bushing for a poly one
    -trans fluid
    -cleaned the airfilter

..the usual long drive stuff. This is also putting some faith in both my personal work with this swap, and a relatively unknown engine. Thankfully I had already ordered a cruise control kit from Levent at GPS as it has been absolutely a life saver. I don't have A/C in the car so I've been cooking in some 90+ humid weather.

Heading to Denver tomorrow to stay with a friend and hang out for a day. It should break up the drive nicely and give me, and the car a nice rest. From Denver to Las Vegas and from Vegas get an early start across the desert and hope to be in Long Beach mid day Wednesday. If anyone along route 70 wants to meet up for a drink or lunch or something let me know. Or if anyone in the Las Vegas area would be gracious enough to let me crash on your couch.

    Few pictures

Trunk packed tight as can be

Not much room in here either. Passenger seat is stuff full too.

And the majority of my large crap is being shipped out by my old work when I get a place.

    The chariot

Been averaging 23.5mpg with the bikes up there. Alittle lower than I was hoping for but it's not hateful.

The first part of this drive has been relatively uneventful. Ohio is boring, Indiana is hands down the worst state in the country to drive through. Garbage roads, constant construction, terrible drivers. I was happy to get out of it. Illinois was smooth and empty, Missouri was more of the same but damn it got hot as balls around St Louis.

Not sure what this was..tornado? Atom bomb? Probably just a power plant actually.

Then I drove through this and it was most intense rain I've ever seen but only lasted like 5 minutes. Enough to soak me even further while I was getting gas.

    lookin like a real queef

I've got an awesome trucker tan going on already.

Then I came up on this car. Looked to be a real clean early Mtech1 car with Kentucky plates. Exchanged a few thumbs up, snapped a few pictures I dipped off to get to my hotel. Not sure if you're on here but your car looked clean. It's a shame I didn't have someone nice to drive with the whole time.

So that's where I'm at. stretching my back on the dirty ass floor of a cheap hotel somewhere near Kansas City. Pretty boring up to this point really but hopefully I'll have some good photos and adventures once I hit the mountains.

Dude, do the Las Vegas to LBC run by leaving at 1AM from Vegas, you'll be in LBC by 4-5AM and it will before you have to experience traffic hell AND epic heat through Barstow/Victorville/Etc.

Congratulations on making the escape from Ohio. Having lived in Cincinnati for 5 long years, I can attest to the fact you are making the right move. I'm reminded of this every 6 months when I have to go to Columbus for work (my company's corporate HQ is there). I see you're a cyclist. You are going to love the cycling culture and and great climbs SoCal has to offer. Did you ever ride Pelotonina? I did it the first year, great ride.

Be safe and see you in SoCal!

agreed. Most people on that stretch during the night cruise at 85+. Also depending on when you get to Vegas, EDC is here this weekend which is a huge deal. They'll probably be an assload of traffic back to Cali on Monday because of it.

Sitting at a friends house just outside Denver right now. Made it across Kansas yesterday and holy hell was that boring. It just wouldn't end and was nothing but fields and straight roads. I hit Colorado and filled up again as another wild storm was rolling in. The rain came down so hard and so fast there probably an inch of rain standing on the road.

Made it to my buddy's house and promptly went and got real food and a beer. I've been eating nothing but trail mix and granola bars while driving for the last two days. After that, him and his roommate took me up to what I believe is the second highest peak in the us.

I'm staying here for the day to let my car and body rest before I head down to Las Vegas.

Only real issue to speak of that I've been having is right before the trip I changed the oil from my normal castrol 20w-50 to full synthetic mobile1 15w-50 and the thinner oil seems to have made what was a very slight dribble from the rear main seal into a quite pronounced leak. I'm going to change it today back to the normal oil and hope that helps. Oh it started running a bit rough once I hit the mountains but I assume that's from lack of oxygen and the car not being used to it. Going to unplug the battery and hope that helps.

Nice road trip. What rims are those? FYI, I went to synthetic and now have what appears to be a leak at the rear seal. Thinking of going back to the old stuff.
