    Leaking gas!!

So I've had my e30 for about 3 months now. It's a 1987 325is. I recently changed my fuel filter and when I did that I noticed something that looked like a fuel pressure regulator rigt next to it. It was really rusted but I just disregarded it. But that was about 2 months ago. And now just today I was driving and I heard a pop. Sounded like my tire but realized it was that thing that looked like the fuel pressure regulator. If I swapped that out with just a hose would my car run fine? Or would I need to replace it with the same part?

Some have just put a hose there and been done with it. It's called an Absorber it basically absorbs the the pulses from the pump and keeps the pressure from cavitating.

It is a vibration damper and it's purpose was to primarily reduce noise. It isn't needed and was not used on later production cars.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
