    M20 difficult cold start

I have a 89 325iX, and I've been having quite a bit of trouble with cold starts lately.

    I've replaced the following recently:
    Fuel Pump
    Fuel Pump Relay
    Crankcase Vent Hose
    Battery

The engine will do a sketchy start the first time you crank it, but I have to give it some throttle so it won't die. After a bit of gas it will sit at a steady idle and be fine. I should mention that it does seem like it's lacking power when driving (can't accelerate past 80 kmph on a decently sized hill, last '87 325e I had could push 120 on the same road)

If you don't give it some gas when it does it's first sketchy start and it dies, then it won't start for a couple minutes.

As I mentioned earlier the idle if steady and doesn't fluctuate, although when starting the Check Engine light does flash. I have a feeling there may be a problem with the alternator, the bulbs in the instrument panel aren't steady, and kind of pulse.

I'd appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to fix this problem!

Brown water temperature sensor on the thermostat housing. BTW, I have couple of them laying around, $8 shipped.
Bought parts from me before? leave your feedback here

The check light will blink until you press the brake. It's not the check engine light.

Just to add some more info on this starting issue that I discovered.

As of recent if I start the car, sometimes it tries itself to get to an idle but slowly dies and giving it gas doesn't revive it from it's snowball to death. This is only when it's a cold start, but when the engine is warm it's able to stay alive. This only happens maybe 1 in 5 times, but I think it's worth noting.

I'm speculating that it's possibly the AFM? hopefully some one can confirm with me, or point me in the right direction.
