Lost 2 chunks on my crank pulley

Any thoughts on how my crank pulley could have lost two chunks with a skid plate installed?

i guessing you got in an accident that pushed the whole core support up (including your plate) into the pully?

Nah......either something got caught between the pulley and belt as it rotated or the pulley already had stress cracks from previous abuse/manufacturing defects. not a big deal. after all, the part is 25 years old.

No accident. I had the timing belt done last month and the pulley was fine.

Reason I had the skidplate comment is the Raceskid's unit would block almost all road debris coming from below.

Pulley got damaged when removed with a puller. Notice how the 2 damaged areas are 120° apart.

25 year old part failing I can accept and just looking for a reason, and I did not consider stress cracks or a defect.

I would say this. Someone used a 3-jaw on it at some point and cracked it.
