Couldn't they just say "Gunmen in *cars* rob Saudi motorcade?"

Nope, - BMWs - everybody knows bad guys drive BMWs. And those Kalashnikov handguns. Probably the BMWs were Opels or Meganes.

Having spent time in Saudi I have to say to the BMW drivers.

Two, bad guys drive Mercedes-Benz or Jaguar if you believe the advertising campaigns.
