    Vert vs. coupe

    Stock m20's...

    I know verts are heavier but what is the speed difference of the two?

    I didn't think my "is" was fast enough, I felt the need for more speed.

    So my big question to you guys if I get a vert will I be disappointed by how much slower it is?

    stock e30s are slow.. end of story. A soccer mom in a Honda Odyssey will beat you at a stop light every time.

    Fun to drive, yes. Fast, no.

        You do not buy a vert to go fast, although you can. Vert is for cruising.

          I live in Canada... I've never been a fan convertibles, period. Seems pointless up this far.

          But OP, you're in Kalifornia, the vert would be cool for cruising. Even if you got a sedan, you can still crank open the sunroof. :)

            i found a really clean mtech vert with Hard top... i don't care for verts much but this one looks like it will keep me happy. and no one told me if the coupes are much faster than verts or if it's not really a difference between the two

              A vert is probably a half second slower, maybe. It weighs 300# more. It's 1 fat dude in your passenger seat slower than an iS, and 1 hot chick cooler than an iS.

                Handling:
                vert = wet noodle
                cpe = slightly less wet noodle

                Acceleration:
                Vert = Slow
                Coupe = Slow

                  ....and you can fit infinite hot chicks in the 'vert because no roof. Just stack 'em like a Jenga tower.

                  Verts are better because, due to the chassis flexing, you will always have all 4 wheels touching the ground.

                    Speed difference between the coupe and vert are minimal...cruising with the top down accompanied by a lady of the evening and cool factor are maximum compared to a coupe.
                    I have both and each has a different experience.

                      I have a vert with fresh suspension and Bilstien sports/ie3 springs. It handles good enough for me as a weekend car but you can still feel the weight and rigidity difference.

                        For all intents and purposes they are the same speed. If a coupe and a vert had a drag race with the same gear ratio, same mileage/engine wear, and same driver the coupe would probably win by about .5 seconds

                            the vert is about as slow as putting 2 friends in your car all the time.
                            they will get to the same top speed but the vert will be a tiny bit slower. like 2-5%
                            the vert's worst thing is the wet noodle feel, front to back will twist up to 2 inches.
                            Much wow

                              This. Cornering in a vert does not inspire confidence
