P0101 Trouble code check engine light M52 swap

    Hi Guys,

I just solved my vaccum leak issue on my M50 manifold. After driving it for a couple days with out any problems I am now getting trouble code P0101. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Maybe you got cone filter bolted directly in front of MAF, creates turbulence, MAF goes nutz

I use that same app sometimes ;) Have you verified the MAF is working at all? Does it immediately fault on key on? or does it take some driving/run time..

Cone filter is direct to MAF. Should I do something else?

Check engine light only cones on after driving it for a while.

Yes, you should put a length of pipe between the MAF and the filter, as the turbulent air coming from the filter tends to cause incorrect readings, and a pipe, the longer the better, helps with that. Having said that, it could be that the MAF is broken, but three or four inches of 80mm/3" styainless or aluminium pipe is probably going to be cheaper, and is something you'd want there anyway.

I'll add the 3-4" of pipe to the front and keep you guys posted. Thanks!

Was getting a little bit of a rough idle. I figured I'd pull off the MAF plug (for the sensor). The engine immediately died.

Checked the codes and I got the P0101 as I did before and this one (P0121):
              [IMG][/IMG]

I cleared the codes and restarted. It starts up at 2500RPMS and then dies down a bit and keeps swinging between 1400-1800RPMS.

If I gas it, it will not go above 2500RPMS. If I put it in gear, and give it gas, it dies.

You unplugged the MAF and got a TPS code? Thats new. Give us a shout and lets make sure its not an issue on our end (although ive not heard of this to this point lol)

Will it run with the MAF disconnected? It should run/drive fine for the most part sans some weird throttle response...

Runs high RPMs with and without MAF now

Ok, so the bad news is that I had a shop test the MAF and TPS by swapping out working ones they had. Issue of really high idle is not going away, so apparently both work on my car. Any idea what it could be?

I can use my ELM327 and OBD Fusion app and the BMW shop can use their generic code reader. We both get the same codes. But, they can't use their other code reader to check any deeper the BMW trouble codes to see what's specifically wrong. My DME won't tell them anything. Is it possible the DME is messed up?
