1991 BMW 318iS
Alpine on grey cloth
142,XXX miles
I have thoroughly enjoyed this little M42 powered E30, but I need to start focusing priorities on purchasing a home. Too many of my projects are in other people’s garages—its time to have my own.
I purchased this car in July 2014 and have done the vast majority of the work to it. It runs like an absolute top and has no timing chain guide rattle that M42s are notorious for. I just took it on a 600 mile round trip to the Fall Southeast Brodeo and had zero trouble at all. The paint was professionally corrected in August 2014 and cleans up nicely for original paint.

Full disclosure:
This car needs nothing to be completely drivable as-is, but there are a few quirks. Something is wrong with the radio/speakers. There is power at all speakers, but if the volume is turned up it becomes a distorted mess. I believe the factory premium sound amp may be bad and should be a relatively easy fix following Luke’s (stereoinstaller’s) instructions. Also, the motometer odometer isn't working, although I suspect it broke recently. With the exception of the radio and odometer, everything works inside. There are a couple of small tears in the bottom cushion of the driver's seat.
The only mechanical issue is the differential is whining. The pinion bearing appears to be the culprit and if I find a 4.10 LSD local, I will replace it prior to the sale. Central locking works from the trunk and passenger side, but not the driver's door.
During the paint correction, a difference in paint thickness was found on the passenger side rear quarter panel, thus indicating work had been done. The panel is straight with no signs of any previous accidents and the title is clean, but in the name of disclosure, paint work has been done. Also, the front edge of the driver's fender is dented and the passenger door has a few small door dings.
Overall, this 318iS is a fantastic driver and I hate to see it go, but such is life. I will include both the Ronals and the very nice original basketweaves for my asking price of $4800. Several distinguished members of this forum have seen/ridden in this E30 and can substantiate my advert. Please PM me with any questions! Due to an unfortunate hard-drive crash that housed my photo libraries, pictures will be added continually. I appreciate your patients, and apologize for only having downloadable photos available to me currently.
Thank you,
Chris
