    M62 OBD1 Swap Running Problem

Posting this for my buddy, we just got his car "running" and seem to only get it to idle without having the MAF plugged in.

    Here are a few notes
    • O2's not plugged in
    • alternator belt not on yet
    • starts but immediately shuts off with MAF plugged in
    • idles rough without MAF plugged in but does run
    • running got worse with cam sensor unplugged

Like mentioned, we literally just got it going last night. We're going to check compression and check coil packs later today. If anyone has any insight please feel free to share!

Coolant temp sensor. I replied to his FB post with specifics.

Are you 100% sure there was a change with unplugging the cam sensor? It should have no impact on ignition timing, which is based off of the crank sensor. The cam sensor just tells the DME which cycle the cylinder is on. Without that signal, it will just fire on every cycle (wasted spark).

I've never noticed any change when unplugging my cam sensor, and that was during a year of constant troubleshooting when I was sorting issues on my own car, so I tried it with/without almost every other sensor hooked up as well, and every combination thereof. Never made a difference.

Thank you again, Justin! Just for forum post closure for future searchers, the ground for the coolant temperature sensor was not complete and the pipe under the intake was leaking.
