Well its been over a decade I think since the first introduction of the SMG, has anybody done this to a M50 family motor?

If you google s54 smg, a lot of videos of E30s come up so I'm sure its doable. Haven't seen any build threads though.

yeah I know but with an e36 euro or s54 I think.. never shows the engine bay.

anybody here seen or tried it. I like to know the hurdles to do it. cant be too hard? right?

I keep hearing its an awesome driving experience from true old manual die hard fans. I never used one but shoot why not? any improvement for my e30 I want in!

I think the biggest issue is going to be price. A unit for my Mitsubishi starts around 8k. Then you have to think about clutch longevity, since you do not control how it's engaged/disengaged. I always run mine is the highest Sport settings as this tells the TCU to give the least amount slip during engage out of the other settings. The special fluids required and their price. The extra cooling required with a remote rad.

At least this appears to be a dry clutch setup and more traditional versus what others use (wet setup and 2 sets of clutch packs, one for even and one for the odd side).

no mitsu just simple BMW SMG and bimmer pricing. I run into them a lot over the years since a lot of guys like my self are ignorant to its tech and look for manual instead..

Does it require it's own TCU or does it piggy off the ECU?
