Help! So close. M50 backfires, no start

Hey guys I finished up swapping everything into my euro car yesterday and can't figure out why I don't have beautiful engine sounds yet. I jumped the fuel pump because of a bad relay, fuel pump is good. I checked for spark, good spark. I bought a new battery because the old one was trash. Fuel is getting all the way to then engine but everytime I try cranking it just backfires loudly every once in awhile. I know there's a little old with some newer gas in there but I've started cars off of worse and I'm semi positive I wired things up correctly. Does anyone know what to check first? Red label Ecu? Crank or cam sensors? God forbid timing issues? I move into my new house in a couple weeks so any help is appreciated so I dont have to sell my dream car. Thanks!

Would you be referring to the metal fuel lines under the intake, also would it even attempt to fire/backfire if they were reversed? Sorry for all the questions mate

I had this problem when I built my S50 and it actually ended up being because I was using an M50NV harmonic balancer as opposed to the VANOS version. Everything was working right, my engine was just firing the spark at the wrong time. Kind of a niche thing, but maybe it'll help someone.
