    Motor plates?



    Why are these not a staple of more builds?

    Before people flame me about NVH, you can run these with poly mounts, it's just that not many people do since soft mounting eliminates alot of the reasons why people rock motor plates

    I understand that mounting accessories would get... interesting... but aside from that these setups (with just the front plate [yes it's OK to use just the front plate, from what i understand it's only necessary when you're running 8-9 second quarter miles] and a stabilizer bar) offer much more clearance for the exhaust.

    For instance, with the mount and mount bracket eliminated from this picture:



    you could probably use el cheapo dirt track block huggers and route the exhaust under the steering shaft and eliminate the stupid BS exhaust routings that most ford swaps end up having to do

      eh? motor plates are hipster now? i'm not even sure how to interpret that

        How can this be configured to an m20?
        Rear plate would be sandwiched between the bell housing and motor and the front..?

        This is really neat.

          apparently you only need the rear plate if you're putting down a shitton of power (by big boy drag car standards)

          i imagine this would be on the difficult side to pull off on a m20 as there aren't many flat surfaces at the front of the engine that a motor plate could bolt to.



          the trick would be figuring out how to squeeze a 1/4" plate behind all the timing sprockets

          not to mention that motor plates are considered to be consumable (after X number of hours the plates need to be replaced due to the aluminum fatiguing), which wouldn't be too bad of a job with the first pic i posted, not so much on the m20
