Well Red Rocket is alive with a new heart transplant. The car was on the dyno last week to give it a run-in dyno tune. I'm very happy to say that the car made 330whp@7,000rpm. Calculating in a 20% drivetrain loss that equates to about 415hp@the crank. Considering that it is not all in and the fact that the engine was only turned to 7,000rpm (built to turn to over 8,500rpm) I am very happy with the results. I reckon that it sounds pretty nice too.

It has been rebuilt with 12.5:1 CR, 1mm oversize valves which have been multi-angled. The cams are massive "race only" Cat Cams with massive lift and duration. Everything in the engine has been replaced. Shim under bucket conversion. ECU is a Motec M84. Vanos has been deleted. Etc, etc.E30 318is S50B32 powered

A little perspective - same dyno, same operator, same conditions my mate's E46 M3 CSL made 265whp.
Of course a dyno is just a tuning tool, and out right numbers don't necessarily mean a whole lot.
But it's a good place to start and I can track the delta change when the all in tune and run is done.E30 318is S50B32 powered

My 90 Honda Civic Si makes 152hp/140tq based on a 20% drive train loss. So basically what youre saying is that a 108hp engine makes 50 more hp from an intake and exhaust and a tune?
All I'm saying is, you need to fundamentally understand power conversions and distribution. Not saying thats not a healthy motor, but boasting about power is just bragging to impress. Also if you jack the tire pressures up to 60psi so you have less rolling resistance is usually worth a few more ponies ;)

What size wheels and tyres were you running on your car?
Ive got 225/35/18 at the moment and there isn't a whole bunch of traction there. Also not a whole bunch of room for meatier tyres. Thinking of running 225/40/18 R comps (R888, Advan etc).E30 318is S50B32 powered

s50b32 are awesome, do you have a printout of the graph? i'm interested to see the torque curve sans vanos.
a hub dyno has way less losses than a twin roller dyno as the tyre deformation is the biggest loss, but still must be plenty of power and fun in an e30
