Selling my touring after many faithful years of service.
Basics:
1993 525i touring
lagungrun green
M50TU
auto
tan/parchment interior
278k chassis miles
Now onto the car itself. The engine was replaced around 230K miles with a lower mileage engine and have receipts to show for it. The previous owner had the entire front end and roof resprayed just before I bought it. Paint is in OK shape with minor sun fading here and there as well as some lower door rust. Missing a few trim bits and has a dent on the left C pillar but otherwise the body is true and straight. No accidents and I have a carfax. Clean OHIO title.
Interior I give a 6/10. It's clean but shows it's age. Drivers seat was replaced with a heated seat and works well but does have the typical E34 lean on the rear of the seat if set back too far. Does have a tear in one of the seams on the base of the seat. Headliner was redone by PO and looks great and clean. Dual sunroof does work but occasionally won't, think the switch has issues, the mechanics of it function well though. Only one dash light out where the coolant temp gauge is. OBC works flawlessly, no burnt pixels on dash or OBC. Has aftermarket CD player and new speaker wire ran to 5.25's. Factory stereo was removed but all associated wiring in place. Dash has a few nicks and some sun fading but otherwise very nice. Bav auto mats and the carpet cleans up well. Windshield replaced a few years back because it was cracked.
Poly bushings on rear subframe. The annoying SLS (leveling rear suspension) was deleted and factory 540i springs with bilsteins in place. Front has Bilstein sports with Bav auto springs. The springs are very soft and do bottom out causing a rough ride on bad roads. Trying to source other springs to replace or sell with the car.
It does suffer from the typical E34 vague steering. Control arms, bushings and tie rods have been replaced in the last year but it still wanders a bit on uneven roads.
Wheels are refinished E39 style 5's (hubcentric rings used). Lips are satin black (some chipping :-/ ), centers are gunmetal and bolts are painted gold. Only one wheel has a slight dent but the balances perfect and the rest are straight. Tires are Cooper RS3-A in 235/45/17's and have probably a year left on them. Wouldn't recommend for winter use.
Engine runs strong, has a slight lifter tick when it's warm but no other issues to speak of. New water pump, thermostat, spider hose and coolant flush in the last year. K&N air filter cleaned on the reg. Fuel filter done earlier this year. New gas tank straps (common E34 failure) done last year. Highway mileage my best average was 32 however on regular trips I average 26-28 and everyday driving 19-22mpg.
A/C converter to R-134a from R12. Recently recharged and blows cold as ice.
The CEL did just recently pop on throwing a code for the vanos system. No noticeable drive ability issues though.
I have a massive folder of all work done from the PO and myself totaling around $8k as well as service notes and receipts for parts. I will throw in a Bentley manual if a R3V member buys this. My GF has been driving it the last year and I'd like to get her something easier to drive for Colorado winters. Driven this car across the country twice and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
