If I was given one, i'd drive it off a cliff........

or maybe just sell it and buy a good car (or put a V8 in mine)

It's the new age American car. Back in the day, the Big Three mad shitty cars with big, powerful engines. Now they just come with smaller, slightly more advanced engines.

They are still shitty...... (Ya hear about the new 300hp Geo Metro, it's crap) ;)

Shitty? It may not be your style, but SRT-4s certainly aren't shitty. :-)

240+ hp at the wheels, great sounding mufflerless exhuast (STOCK, with a 3" MOPAR/Borla upgrade), nice FMIC with room for a larger one, MOPAR Stage 1,2,3,3R upgrades, KW Variant/MOPAR Stage 2 and 3 suspension upgrades (coilovers with 1 and 2-way shock adjustability respectively), agressive Viper-inspired seats, nice Autometer boost gage, Quaiffe LSD (MOPAR upgrade for '03 models), and the list goes on.

That motor certainly responds well to boost and upgrades. Suspension upgrades (namely the KW variant coilovers), and upgrading to some more serious rubber (7" or 7.5" wide wheels with 215 or 225 width rubber) should make it really handle. Yeah its a Dodge, yeah its wwh (wrong wheel drive), but what do I care? SRT-4's kick ass.

They arent shitty, they are a hell of a lot faster in a straight line than our cars, they handle alright, but the quality is comendable and they are fast as hell. Youve obviously never driven one so dont talk about something that you have no experience of.

How much they go for again? 20-25k maybe?

              5k for decent e30 + 10k for S50 + 5k for install = 20k

Ok..... let's compare both down the road now :P

                  Ok..... as opposed to:

                  - S50 e30, ( for 22k if you want to add a BBK ) which is not an american car, rear wheel drive, and 10x more fun to drive.

I spend another grand to say screw warranty and to buy a 2003 Kia Sephia for a daily driver.

Edit: On a side note, I rather stick with my stock e30 seeing I lack the skills to drive either one of the mentinoned above :P

This is a dumb game, but I'll keep playing.

20k that you can finance as a new car with any bank/dealer vs trying to get a loan for 20k on a 15 year old car.

Like Charlie said, let's not turn this into a pissing contest. For $20k, there's a lot of options. With $20k, some 4130 tubing, a spare Hayabusa motor, and the right tooling you could easily build an uber track car. Heck, for 1/10 the budget ($2000) and some careful accounting, you could easily build up a miata with a Ford 5.0 swap... Its been proven in Grass Root Motorsport's $2003 challenge. Think of the things I could do with the remaing $18k...

The point is, compared to what's being offered out there by the rest of the industry, the Neon SRT-4 is a hoot and unmistakable value. Chrysler's aftermarket support is awesome (ie, having companies like KW Suspensions and Borla build aftermarket parts).

Are we all that brand-sensitive that we can't overlook that the SRT-4 is based off Chrysler's cheapest platform despite its bang-for-the-buck? Yeah, if BMW offered a car that ran high 13-second 1/4 mile times for $20k it'd obviously be "cooler" than an SRT-4... but that's not going to happen. The fact is, if you can accept an SRT-4 for what is, its a hoot to drive.

                              simply put: YES.

it's still a plymouth neon........i mean dodge...... (why did the that company disappear?)

anyway, no offense to your tastes and attraction to the car, or defense of it

but, it is UGLY AS SHIT. Ricer wing.....looking-like-a-VW-beetle body shape...etc, tires seem pathetic for that engine. The interior i hear is cheap and cruddy.
                              "Cons
Lacks refinement, some low-grade interior components.......materials quality is poor and build quality generally isn't much better."
From edmunds. Basically i detest my friends old neon, it was a hunk absolute crap...... and want to punk on my aunt's New neon.

It may be great bang-for-buck......but Kias are also great value for your money.....doesn't mean you're driving a Kia around!

If i had to deal with an new American console every day, i'd throw up.

As for the $20k price......i'd rather go with a used, sporty car and put a lil money in it.
If you want a new car, go for a Cooper, they are fun and get the CooperWerks package, for 200hp......(not as much as the Neon, but at least you aren't driving a Neon!)...and besides the Cooper is a lot lighter!
