    Limited slip unit differences?

Ok here is my question, Is this limited slip unit inside the differential the same for the differnet gear ratios in the large case 325 diffs? Such as, is the unit the same in a 2.79 diff as it is in a 3.73 diff if they were both limited slip units?

I think you hve to be within a certain numeric range if you want to swap the carrier. Stu knows for sure, but I don't.

There are differant amounts of locking to some LSD's ie 40% or 25%. You need to ask someone who knows where to derive the info from in either etka or tech manuals.

Thanks guys. I've got a 2.79 limited slip diff in the garage, and in some point in time the 3.73 on my 325is got changed out for a open 3.73( I believe the tag dosn't show the S but the wheels both spin in the proper direction). So I was thinking of swapping the whole intire center unit of the diff over and just sticking my 3.73 ring gear onto the 2.79 Limited slip unit.

All sold BMW factory LSD in E30´s E28´s E34´s and E36 compact´s and Z roadsters and Coupes are the same i.e interchangable, and all 25% lockup,

BMW made 40% for racing teams in the 80´s and 90´s,

You can have the lockup raised by a diff shop

Think of it this way, you are sticking the LSD into the 3,73 diff

Thanks. I cracked open an open diff I had the other day and it's built just like the diffs in the remote control cars I used to build. So I'll tyr to find out for sure if my 3.73 is limited slip or not and if it's not I'll take the limited slip unit out of my 2.79 and just stick the 3.73 ring gear on it. I might go ahead and replace the out put seals to while I'm at it.
