You should talk to NitroRuslterDrvr (Andrew). He's my brother in law, and he's WAY into RC cars.

I just got a NItro RS4 with a Murcielago body over the summer. Stock for now. I was so busy with work over the summer, and now school, that I've only gotten 3 tanks of gas through it! Not even completely broken in yet (still need to put around at low throttle for 2 more tanks)!

Any tips on extending engine life? HPI has a list of "horror" stories on their website about people who have had their nitro engines wear out quickly after break-in due to improper care. Most had scored cylinder walls. I assume the common mistakes people make is to take the air filter off to set the intial throttle gap, then they stupidly keep the filter off during break-in or they break it in too lean (not enough oil to wash out the particulates/motor gets too hot). Should I ditch the stock air filter and go for something better? I've been careful to watch fuel mixtures (carb is set to 3 turns during break in), and keep the air filter on.

        Extending Engine Life:
1.Always keep a properly oiled filter on the carburetor. Personally I like the ones made by Novarossi. A simple easy to install cylindrical foam filter.

        2. Break In is important. Break in using a high castor oil content fuel. I use 20% Nitro fuel - nice compromise between too much and too little, plus a little pep for racing.
Run at least 5 tanks through the motor before leaning it out. When leaning out you will know the optimal setting for when you squeeze the throttle to full, the motor exhaust will be a bit smoky.

For .10 motors I think 15% nitro fuel is recomended. Its always safer to sacrifice some power to run the engine a bit rich rather than too lean. Lack of lubrication and heat will kill high reving motors.

If you are NOT racing and just putz around the parking lot, there is no need to lean out for speed and power. These cars are fast enough. Run it slightly rich and extend the motor life.

        3. After every run, with the tank empty, unscrew the plug and add some after run oil and turn the engine over a few times. This prevents corrosion and keeps the internals lubed for the next start up.

Ever launched your truck out of a 5ft quarter to flat pavement?

4Ft Flat bank over a car (well kind of over it hit it a bit).
