    C6 Z06 vs 997 Carrera S

I am looking to get a pure sports car in the next 18 months

    E30 is going nowhere

I really would love a 911 but the vette is tempting although the build quality is lacking but the LS7 is a beast

My 335i probably runs low 12's and its plenty fast so I think the carrera S would be close although it wont have the torque

Handling wise the porsche has a better suspension design but the rear engine isnt the best weight distribution

I like that the 911 has 4 seats as i have two younger kids

    What would you go with

I'm not interested in a S2000 do to lack of power and a cayman is too ugly

So much can change in 18 months, like another kid. I say get either one, maybe the corvette first and enjoy it. Have your fun and then sell it. The get the Porsche, enjoy then sell. This isn't a marriage. Just figure out which one you want first. I think the learning curve on a a Corvette would be quick and you would get tired of it. I've never purchased a toy and expected to keep it long term. Wife stays the same but the mistress doesn't. I hope this helps you.

I have wanted a small block EFI 427 since before GM started making them in the factory. Yeah its "not as refined" as the P cars are or as "prestigious" but If I was to come into a bit of sports car money..... Its a Royal Blue or Black c6 ZO6 with some go faster goodies

To purchase either suggests a healthy budget. A lot of cool cars could fit. First one that comes to mind:

You mention pure sports car and then mention kids....they don't even fit together.

A Z06 is fast but the interior, although an improvement from a C5, is out of a G6 basically. It also lacks rear seats and consumables aren't at all cheap.

I had a great experience with a 997 on track, but would be unsure about upkeep on a P-car.

I'd go with an Evora S or 400 - rear seats for little humans, great handling (telepathic really) and fun to drive, no Porsche maintenance to deal with (Toyota Camry engine), and interior superior to a C6 vette.

To help make this decision, I'd go and try them out in their natural habitat:
Drive our Porsche 911 Carrera S in Las Vegas! Or choose from our GT3, Cayman GTS or Turbo S street car and race car.

Well i will be keeping the 335i for a dd and family duties
So the car doesnt have to have 4 seats or a usable back seat

People love to hate on Vette's, but they are purpose built machines.

I don't think you would be unhappy with either, but I would go Vette.

Also, this will be an unpopular recommendation, but an Evolution 8 or so.

They can be quite nasty sports cars when done right.

I was confused by your first post, are you wanting something quick down the 1/4 mile, or something fast for a trackday (bro?)

If you are looking for quick times at the drag strip, get a Hellcat or something of that ilk.

If you want to go around the track fast, buy some track time.

If you are just looking for something to carve the curves and stoplight race - maybe even consider a 1 M-coupe or sourcing a Dinan shoe. Those will keep you in the BMW stable and be both capable red light rushers and for burning up a set of track tires. Though be sure that the 1-series has had the turbo's warranted out at least once and upgraded, other wise you'll lose boost after a few sessions.

1/4 mile times are not what i am after although it probably should be in the mid to low 14's to feel quick i dont want a momentum car

I love m coupes but its basically an e30 with a much better engine I would just swap the e30 instead

I didnt really think about the evo my brother used to have one and its an amazing car that one has got me thinking

What about a used GT-R? They're unreal on the track.
