50 Shades of Red. Chapter: Trans swap!

Title explains the car pretty good since there is many shades of red on it! But anyways thought I'd make a thread here since its no longer an automatic. I didn't really mind the automatic, but when it was cold out it would not shift correctly and sometimes there would be no reverse.. That started to change recently and was doing it when it was warm/hot out. So I put a Getrag 240 in it and kept the 4.10 gears. First gear is really short and spins around 3500@65mph. Averaging 24mpg as to where I was 21-23mpg with the automatic. While I was under it, I put new mounts on the trans and engine and stainless braided clutch line and broke my cruise control cable. Did fix it temporally with epoxy.

A little back story here too, on July 5th my XJ got totaled. The girl who pulled out infront of me, her insurance paid me for my XJ. Then a few days later a deer took out the front of my e30.... What luck ..... But repaired it with what I had. I do have another hood, but it's green. But now the e30 is my daily again. Was just driving it on nice days when I had my XJ.

The garbage on the road is from her car when her doors flew open from the impact.

    10:00pm....

    couple hours later.....!

Next day with a can of spray paint.

Currently... I put DEPO smoked Smilies in it with DDM 4500K 35 bulbs, fogs have 15w LEDs. And black kidneys. I never really liked black kidneys but thought id give them a try since changing to the black lights.

Nice! I kept the PO-edition loud ass exhaust since I figured it was at the very least a deer deterrent.

my cabrio also has 4.10s and they are definitely not highway friendly ;) one time I was driving through Wyoming and the speed limit became 80. I wasn't worried about being pulled over on that road!

Loving the color, got one the same as your self. How did you fix the deer damage so fast? Guessing you had parts lying around. I swapped out my open 4:10 diff as fast as I could. Now I know what everyone is talking about.

I like loud exhaust myself, but have found it don't really matter to the deer. I've had them run into me while at a complete stop. But I think this spring I am going to put long tube headers on it and keep my current Thrush Welded muffler.

Red is my favorite color! But the damage on the hood and valance I was mostly able to pull out. Although they need replaced cause of previous owners carelessness. The bumper I epoxyed the skin and then used bumper filler to smooth over the repairs. The headlights I had stock ones laying around with a spare set of euro grills too. I live in the hills and these 4.10s are kind of nice going up a mountain.

Was kind of sad about it, being a 2 door 4.0 5 speed. And thanks!

My nose and mouth was sore for a couple of hours and got a small brush burn on my arm. Then my body got really sore over the next couple of days.

                  I got everything out of a 324d.
