Help! Where is this line supposed go?

Earlier this week my cars return hose ripped. As i was replacing it this morning, noticed it had some sort of bypass? thing connected to it. Here is the old hose:

Here is where the return hose connects to the aluminum heater core pipes

The one I'm confused about is the one with "industries" written on it. I figured the PO patched something and so i'm trying to do it the right way and get it over with. I'd appreciate any help.

    Edit: car is 88 iX

I think your "CRP Industries" hose tees into that plastic tee.

That looks like the retrofit for the 'don't explode the heater core'
that BMW stuck in to protect the heater core from getting superheated
water in the event that the car overheated.
It was pretty hinky, and involved chopping the existing hose in half, as you have there.
You can just see the t- stat attached to your CRP hose.
Terrifying that it only had one hose clamp...

^ it actually had 2 clamps, i just took one off prior to the picture lol

You're correct, the "industries" hose was attached to the T, i just didn't know if it was ok like that or if there was another properly correct way to have the hoses connected.

Also, very funny that you say "don't explode the heater core" because it busted last month haha

Yeah, ironically, that was when I ripped all that crap out, too-
the heater core blew, and while I was redoing the hoses, I deleted that t- stat.

        Time will tell, eh?
