RPM needle stops at 6k

So this just started to happen- the engine will continue to rev past 6k, but the needle just stops there. Any ideas?

I just did replace the odo gears.

The odo gears wont have anything to do with your tach. It may have junk in it or perhaps you snagged the needle when you disassembled the cluster.

Pull the cluster apart and clean all the tach pins. Make sure the ground is good. If memory serves, there are a few nuts that serve as ground junctions on the tach module itself - pull those nuts off and clean off any corrosion. One of those nuts resulted in my tach sitting at 2k rpm until I got above 3k, and then it would jump up and be fine. Cleaning the grounds made it work like new, and also made it much more accurate (relative to Megasquirt's actual sensor reading).

There are no nuts on the tach, only the four connections for the tach and four for the MPG gauge. If your tach works at all, then all connections are fine.

If your tach fails to go to 7k, most likely your SI board or coding plug has failed. If you need professional help with this, let us know.
