    Aftermarket vs OEM trunk lid weatherstrip?

    We've been getting crazy rain in SoCal, and I think I have finally traced my trunk leak down to the trunk seal itself, even though mine doesn't have any noticeable tears or anything the water still seems to be seeping past on the drivers side filling my jack well (have confirmed it is not sunroof tube, and taillight seals are newish). Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket trunk seals such as the "Uro" brand like ECS sells vs. the OEM BMW weatherstrip? I normally buy OEM or equivalent everything for my car, but right now money is real tight, and it is a very simple seal, so I would rather not spend twice as much for OEM if anyone out there has tried the cheap ones out there and found it to be decent.

    Just buy oe, uro might be tempting but it's too long and while you could cut it like I did. I cut it too short lol and had to add a piece in between the two ends. Not easy stuff to cut either, can't do it with scissors. To save the hassle just buy oe bmw. I won't pay another penny to URO considering most parts they have are shit quality or don't fit.

      I bought the Uro one years ago when I was stupid. It was too soft and leaked almost immediately. Installed OE and it's been fine ever since.

          Thank you very much for the advice, exactly what I was looking for, if not exactly the answer I wanted. I know some things you can get away with cheapening out on, looks like this isn't one, will buy OE BMW.

            OE seal is excellent.

            One more thing...you didn't mention if you replaced the radio antenna grommet/seal. When it leaks, it lets water into the jack well also.

              i drilled a couple of small holes in my jack well...

                There are actually drain slits already in the jack well. Just clear the crap from them and carry on

                  Really? Where exactly are they located? I'll have to poke around some for it. My car is clean and free of rust but I have never noticed anything like that. I have also considered drilling a small hole in there, I'd probably fit a small plastic plug if I did.


                  I run an antenna delete plug, it fits really snug but I threw some RTV on it as well at some point to eliminate it as a possible leak source.
