The soon to be Aplineweiss daily

    Hey r3v,
so after about 2 years of not having an e30 as a daily I finally found one!
Its an 85 325e alpinewiess coupe.
Unkown mileage, and rough as hell, should make for a good project.

It came with sport seats, sport steering wheel, 13 button obc, and automatic sunroof, which to my knowledge would make that an es, but sources say that the es didn't come out till 86.
    Can anyone confirm this?

    Goals:
    m50b25 swap
    e36 rack
    redo entire suspension
    wheels/tires
    respray

I'm sure ill add more to the list, but that outta do for now.
here are a couple pics before I started anything

As you can tell it needs some serious attention.
First on the list was getting into the trunk where more parts were located. One problem though, the previous owner fucked up the lock. So, what I decided was to beat out the ski pass and remove the lock from the car with a ratchet, 10mm socket and about 3ft of extensions. Luckily my plan worked and I had access to all parts of the car.

here is some of the shit I found along with the engine harness, a Walmart skateboard, and 10ft of home stereo wiring.

Next up was stripping the interior down. As you could see in the first pic, there was about 1/4 of the windshield still on. So lucky me living in FL and the previous owner not using a tarp, the carpet was wet and stained, so it obviously had to go.

and lucky me its only surface rust

And that's how she currently sits.
Next up, is removing that low powered m20 to make room for an m50.

    stay tuned...

You're either very talented or crazy, but either way you and I have very different ideas of what would make a good project. :)

As rain water has been freely pouring onto and around the dash, the dash and everything behind it needs to come out, and the entire wiring harness either replaced with a known good one or carefully gone through to check for problems created by moisture. I'd also give all of the ducting a very thorough cleaning so you don't end up sick from the mould spores which have likely infested them.

With that all stated, I wish you luck getting that car to daily status! ;)

If it were an ES it would be a MY 86, the seats would be leather, and it would have an ES air dam, basket weaves and an Mtech steering wheel.

Looks like an ambitious project - good luck!

          Looks like a fun build.

That's what I figured. didn't even think about the basketweaves though.

you wouldn't happen to have a crack free windshield, would ya?
I got the engine pulled, and started cleaning up the bay. I've decided to shave the bay with a wire tuck, which Ive got started on as well.
Thinking about going with jet black to contrast the white exterior.

                (^after engine was pulled)

                (^in process of shaving)

I don't have much left, just need to cut out some metal and weld it into place. Then I can primer/seal and finally paint.

The bay is going to be put on hold for a few days because I picked up a donor, which will supply my m50/harness/dme, radiator and steering rack.
                Meet the 92 325i donor

I took your advice and pulled the dash, might as well check it out while everything is apart, right? (plus the dash was cracked to hell and I have a crack free one)

As of now I'm in search of an e34 oil pan/pickup/dipstick
(PM me if you have one for sale)
                thanks

A bit of an update here.
Ive started checking all the wiring and making sure it hasn't suffered any damage from water, but its hard to tell when youre dealing with a 32 yr old car that is about 50% stripped.
I do know my taillights, brakes, and turn signals are working. I need a replay for the sunroof, and then figure out why the windows aren't working.
the instrument cluster and check panel both work.

Pulled the m50 and rack out of the donor car. Started cleaning the engine up to replace some gaskets and other bits and found a crack in the head between two exhaust studs on cylinder 3.
Luckily I picked up another m50 from the junkyard out of an e34, so I can use that head(hopefully its crack free) and use the oil pan as well. So, not a complete loss.

I am almost finished welding in the metal for the shaved bay, just gotta do one more piece, and then I can start making it look as it should.

And lastly I happened to find an e30 being parted out so I managed to snag the windshield and will getting the carpet and other misc. pieces here in a few days.
