    Ugly red

I bought this 1985 325e about a month ago. It was cheap and i couldnt pass it up at the time, im thinking about doing an i head swap and turbo it in the future.
It ran idle was very rough but it ran. Temp gauge out, tach comes and goes, no reverse, 2nd grinds, and the interior was trashed. Like windows left down in the snow for a week. But for 400 bucks not bad.

Reverse and second gear fixed with just the rear carrier bushing which was styled like the late model shift linkage, I thought it was wierd. I noticed tie rod ends and sway bar end links were shot along with csb. So those are ordered and new plugs oil filter and air filter.

I didnt realise the water damage inside the car for about a week. But I ended up ripping it all out and trashing it. It was bad stained black and moldy cat pissy and holey and burnt.

I'm not sure about redoing the carpet or leaving it out.
I found a mint set of e46 seats to put in but couldn't pull the front seats and they were gone by the next day. But I grabbed the black leather back seat. I needed seats so I found some comfort tan e36 seats for 100 and build brackets. The passengers installed and the driver side is waiting to be installed.

The junkyard was half off today so I had to go and found a set of e39 sport black leather seats in great shape so I made off with them for 55 dollars haha. What a steal.
I've been searching and searching and have not found anything about these fitting in anything but e34s and that was confirmed either.
But I'm going to fit these bad b*these in my e30, and I'm going to try and help anyone else by writing a diy about the swap.

Helpful tip on pulling junkyard electric seats is to wire up 2 9v battery's together and hook them up to the brown (ground) and brown/red (batt +). And all movements are usable.

    Hey, welcome!

If you want to embed photos into your post, use the "insert image" button (looks like a mountain and moon in a box). It'll look like this before you submit:

With winter leaving and the sun shine coming back out I got a little work done on ugly red the past month. I started to part out what I had taken out and didn't need. I got the drivers side e39 seats rough fitted. It's very very tight, I doubt it would of fit with the carpet in. The plastic trim on the inside of the seat would not fit and had to be removed as well as the seat belt buckle and airbag, which was swapped to the e30 one. And outside trim with all the control buttons fits for now without carpet or the door cards. I also had to pull the wiring that ran down the corner up and over the slide rails for the seat and they are now sitting in the outside trim of the seat until I re run them away from the seat a little more. The seats aren't fully bolted in yet as the power isn't wired up. Makes adjustments a pain.

Its been awhile but I got all the parts to do an I swap and a couple to do a turbo build down the road.
I got the harness converted from the square 85 to the I round harness, and the ecu, tach, and I harness put in. The I head cleaned up and a new headgasket with new head bolts, cleaned and installed the I thermostat and intake manifold. Cleaned and polished I throttle body and coolant hose bypass.
The original oil pan was cracked and jb welded, it didn't leak but it wasn't pretty, so I got a good pan from the junkyard and did the front case, oil pump seal, and crank seal while I was there. New timing belt, tensior, and water pump.
Got an oil cooler, the remote mount and lines. I deleted the ac and I'm gonna delete the power steering, so I have room to mount the oil cooler there but I'll need new lines, so I gonna get an lines and adapters.
I need a new radiator and all new coolant hoses and something to mount the I coolant resivour. I was looking into deleting the fan clutch for a auxiliary one to.
I pulled the tranny to put into my 88 325is so needed an new transmission.
I pulled a trans for the car months ago thought it was an e36 but it was an e46. Got a matching pilot bearing installed and got the transmission bolted up. I spun the crank 6 times to check flywheel and pressure plate clearance. I flipped the e30 trans mount and it bolted up, a little tighter on one side and the shift linkage is damn close it just rubs a little going into reverse. The e30 driveshaft fits as well I kept the e46 guibo in the trans and used that.
The flywheel inspection cover fits somewhat, the trans holes don't line up and it leaves a little gap on the corners.
Little bit more work and i should be able to start it.
