It can be made to work with the right flywheel/throwout bearing, but I wouldn't use it. It's also for the motronic 1.0 system so it has the sensor ports which you won't need. I'd hold out for one from a 325i.

you can't find anything closer to you? why not have the guy put it on a small pallet, take it to a local freight carrier, and you pick it up at a freight dock local to you? that would cost less than 200 bucks. what is your time and fuel worth?

why wouldn't you use it? there is absolutely no logical reason for this. putting an "I" trans in an "E" would be a problem. not the other way around.

The input shafts are different lengths. The eta's is slightly longer, so he will have to use the thicker and heavier eta flywheel, or the longer throwout bearing from I believe an e34. It's something I ran into after comparing both my 325i and eta transmissions when doing my frankenstein eta build. Plus, I just wouldn't like having those ports that he won't need.

I searched car-part.com real quick and it looks like there's one in a yard in Houston from a '87 325i. There's gotta be others.

There was only a 1.5 year odd transmission that came with the very late eta. Any eta that came with a single mass (most of them did), then the swap is direct.

As far as the holes in the bell housing, there were a few years that had the holes in a 325i, as well as both shifter mount styles.

e34 has the same TOB as the 325, even the 24v if you do a parts cross reference.

Part 21517521471 was found on the following vehicles:

John is correct. Not all ETA's came with the dual mass flywheel. I have a late ETA trans on my 91 325i.

I'm confused now. What distinguishes a late eta? As far as I know if it's an eta then it's running motronic 1.0 that requires the sensor ports, which they got rid of with 1.1 onward? And the eta still needs the longer input shaft for the thicker flywheel, whether dual or single mass. The latest eta trans I dealt with was from '86 that used single mass, which prevented me from using a 325i flywheel because then the pedal throw was awkwardly long unless I used a longer throw out bearing.

I put an 87 eta trans in to my 87 cabrio. Left the sensors in to plug the holes and used an i flywheel and clutch kit.

Did the same in my racecar. The transmission was stock for the car (same vin even) and it was an '85 eta. Multiple i motors over the course of 4 season bolted in with zero issues using stock i flywheel and clutches.

If you need the thicker single mass flywheel let me know I have one sitting in my shed that has been recently resurfaced!

                          Good luck with the install.

if anyone needs it, the longer throwout bearing comes from an E21 323i... 21511204525 30mm.
